About Aces & Adventures

✦ AI summary

Build and battle with enchanted card decks in a Norse mythology adventure where poker hands unleash devastating attacks against the forces threatening the Life Tree. Combine deckbuilding strategy with fast-paced 10-20 minute poker-powered duels across 5 characters, procedurally generated runs, and the new Invernal Spiral mode that brings roguelike depth to every journey.

A poker-powered deckbuilding adventure
Three tables stand in a circle of stones in the misty heart of the old woods, forming a portal to a soaring world drawn from the pages of ancient Norse and Middle Eastern mythology. There, you will embark on a journey to save Cardrasil, the Life Tree, from the evil that gnaws at her roots. Each card of the enchanted deck she entrusts to you are leaves plucked from her very branches. Use them to evoke your abilities and unleash devastating, poker-powered attacks. Grow your own power, prune your own deck, but make haste! The seasons are changing; warmth won’t be free for long.

New Invernal Spiral Game Mode

Brand new way to play Aces & Adventures: The Invernal Spiral, a deck-manager mode inspired by games like Slay the Spire that allows you to build and curate your deck throughout a lengthier adventure.
 • Fast-paced gameplay delivered in highly consumable 10-20 minute sessions.
 • 5 Characters, each with their own library of abilities and 30 levels of advancement.
 • Unlock powerful traits and equipment as you progress through your journey.
 • 13 fully-voiced campaigns and 4 games for a total of 52 levels of escalating challenge
 • Procedurally generated runs ensure endless unique experiences.
 • Build your own decks, and upgrade your abilities to Elite and Legendary potency.

Gameplay
A unique combination of traditional playing cards and special ability cards sits at the heart of Aces & Adventures. You’ll craft a deck and choose how to use your resources – do you aim to defeat your opponents through attacks and spells, or play cards in order to potentially draw devastating high-value poker hands and obliterate your foes in a mighty blow?
 • Use the four suits as mana to activate your abilities.
 • Throw a single card as an attack; high card wins.
 • Go poker-powered and throw a pair, triple, four-of-a-kind, or valid five-card poker hand.
 • The defender tries to match the number of cards in attack. If the defender plays a better hand of that size, the attacker takes the damage
 • Combine buffs, debuffs, abilities and spells to unleash combination attacks of catastrophic power.

Aces and Adventures is a deep and complex deckbuilder that is sliced up into bite sized story chapters. I didn't find this format all that enjoyable, but the overall game is still amazing and the voice acting and delivery is top notch. The base game provides five different classes and eventually a generous amount of cards to select from. Later on, there will be more map based path adventuring which I find much more enjoyable. The initial game is very slow and it might turn some players away too soon. The game gets much better after several hours after you get some improved traits, abilities, and useful cards. Although the game uses poker hands, I find the game is more about strategizing how to best use your abilities to minimize damage to your character. At a certain point, most characters will just snowball through the chapters and RNG becomes a moot point. There are even additional 'at-a-boys' for speed runs. The game continues to offer more selection the longer you play. Yes, it is a bit grindy. But it is still a fun game and it takes many runs to understand many of the games nuances.
A Fresh Take on Deckbuilding
Basing combat around poker cards is a really cool idea, and it creates a nice balance between luck and planning. I enjoyed the story. It isn't just a series of battles. The different choices you make can lead to different encounters and events, which gives each run a little more personality. I also really like the art style. It has its own identity and fits the game's fantasy world really well. What kept me playing was the amount of variety. There are plenty of cards to unlock, different combinations to experiment with, and each character has their own skills and playstyle that make runs feel different. The enemies also have their own unique and later upgraded abilities, so battles feel less repetitive and you're constantly adapting every time. Even after finishing the story, there's still plenty to do. The extra game modes are a fun way to challenge yourself, and the higher difficulty levels add another reason to come back. Between leveling up characters, upgrading your deck, and trying different builds, there was always something else new to try. Overall, Aces & Adventures feels like a genuinely fresh take on the genre. It takes familia…

Beautiful and well put-together. Something about the way one plays cards felt very limited to me. A good game for those who enjoy limited strategies and tight options. Feels more like Hearts than Magic: The Gathering.

This game is a good time! The narration is fully voiced very well, and the gameplay is interesting and varied between the classes. Except you can't play two pair, which stinks. FREE TWO PAIR
