A table worth sitting at
The centerpiece is a 3D mahjong table rendered with a telephoto camera. The compressed depth of a long lens brings the tiles forward, making them crisp and readable without squinting or leaning in. Blue felt, warm wood rims, clean tile artwork. Every detail tuned for the long session.
Every rule. No shortcuts.
Agari implements the standard riichi ruleset used across major online platforms: all 41 yaku, every yakuman, han, fu, proper scoring. Full ruleset including pao, ippatsu, rinshan kaihou, haitei, chankan, nagashi mangan, abortive draws, double and triple ron.
The scoring engine is open source. The Agari library, published on GitHub and as a standalone Rust crate, handles the full pipeline: hand decomposition, yaku detection, fu calculation, shanten analysis, and wait recognition. Built by the same author. Anyone can check the math.
A tenpai helper shows your valid waits and tile acceptance in real time. There when you want it, out of the way when you don't.
A cast of voices
Every chi, pon, kan, riichi declaration, and ron is called out in Japanese by a cast of distinct voice characters, all built from real human voice acting. The core voices, Aiko and Rai, anchor the cast, with additional female and male characters derived from their recordings, each with its own sound and feel. You choose your voice; the AI opponents each get their own. The table sounds alive.
AI that actually plays mahjong
The AI plays real mahjong. Not a simplified approximation. Tile acceptance, shanten distance, 5-block theory, call decisions, discard reads. By the book. Fine-tuned parameters drive four distinct personality modes: Offensive (chases fast hands), Balanced, Defensive (avoids dealing in), and Menzen (stays closed hand). Mix and match opponents to suit how you want to play.
Daily Wall
Every day, the same wall is dealt to every player worldwide. No accounts, no servers. Just a deterministic seed from the date. It resets at midnight. If you've played Wordle, you understand the idea.
Play anywhere
Private online multiplayer via WebRTC. 2 to 4 players, with AI to fill any open seats. Share a room code, sit down, play. Reconnect if you drop. Or play solo against AI on a plane, a train, or your couch with the Wi-Fi off. Native support on Windows, macOS, and Linux Desktop.
Your stats, your history
Agari tracks your performance over time: first-place rate, deal-in rate, yaku frequency, han distribution. See which yaku you've won with and which you're still chasing.

Lacks the presentation of Sega NET MJ, the single-player structure of Dirtbag Mahjong, the ruleset customization of Riichi City, the frictionless multiplayer of Riichi Advanced (free), the strong incumbent playerbase of Tenhou, the UI polish of Maru-Jan, and the AI strength of Mattari (free, from 2008!). Like...it's proficient. For $7, in the highly specific field of "fully-offline PC-native riichi", you could do worse. But there's a pervasive AI-assisted carelessness from menus to manual to mat; it doesn't do anything [i]well[/i], just [i]barely well enough[/i], and even that judgement requires a fair amount of mercy. New players will find no teaching tools or tutorials—not even a [i]rules leaflet[/i]—and long-time players will be bored by the weak AI, which seems incapable of building value and opts for senseless damaten from miles behind. Even when playing fast and careless, my average placement is 1.6 and my average deal-in value is 1300. If you don't have a play group willing to drop a combined $28 on worst-in-class presentation, Agari is effectively a subpar console game—the kind you've been able to play since the SNES (and can still play today). One of the better offline clients out there. I've been constantly looking for a riichi client to play with bots at own pace, most of the clients are either abandoned and no longer supported (or recieve no new features, only bugfixes), or packed with weak bots. According to roadmap (https://agari.app/roadmap/), dev is focusing on bringing difficult bots, which will make this client a must-buy. Better than Kemono Mahjong: client is smoother, pc focused Better than Mahjong Nagomi: from every perspective Current bots are OK, feels like they know how to fold, etc. Would be cool to get in the future: - Replays - Ability to turn off automatic riichi highlight - Ability to review the table after the deal - something else3 found this helpful
Recently started my riichi journey and I can tell I'm going to sink a lot of hours into this game. I share most, if not all, the same sentiments as the developer. The game is already really nicely polished and you can tell the developer really cares about riichi mahjong and making a quality product that is backed by a solid foundation. Agari is a mahjong client that has quickly become my go-to for non-ranked play. It has no fluff or fat attached. The ui is simple and clean and the whole game runs extremely fast. Its a mahjong client i could actually use without having to worry about people looking over my shoulder. The bots are not exceptionally strong but are still fun to play against and provide a challenge at an intermediate level. Ive read that the developer intends to add stronger bots in the future so im excited to see how that goes. The daily wall mode is a niche ive not seen elsewhere and provides a fun way to compete with friends. The only thing I am really missing here is a mobile version. This style of offline, lightweight, safe for work mahjong would be great as a phone app. Other mahjong clients tend to be a bit bloated and, even more importantly, are covered in scantily clad anime girls that would get me labeled as a pervert if seen over my shoulder (and seriously, who wants these gacha mechanics in a mahjong game??? Why are they so popular? Do people have no shame?)2 found this helpful
Very nice riichi client to play offline or friend lobbies. Lots of options, snappy gameplay, all the required QOL, no gacha / "gaze at these characters" distractions. Just clean and well made! :)1 found this helpful
