Alien Breeding Program: First Contact

The art in this game in phenomenal, if that's all you're playing it for. The storyline is lacking; I would hardly call it 'interactive.' It is a click-through story. I only encountered two choices during the entire playthrough.

Well written visual novel that contains about four hours of "gameplay" (although the total amount of gameplay is relegated to a few story based choices here and there). The story follows a human female main character who is captured and taken aboard a massive alien space ship after the technologically advanced aliens conquer Earth and, as the title suggests, set about trying to breed humans and another barbaric alien race for footsoldiers. The story does feature violence and themes of non-consensual sex so be warned. That said, the main story is mostly a Beauty and the Beast type story between our main character and her chosen alien mate as they learn to communicate and then try to find a way to survive and even escape their captivity. The artwork in the game is pretty great, but at about the halfway mark the art style changes dramatically (an in game notes that there were issues with the original artist and the team had to switch over to a replacement). The second artist's work is fine, but I feel it doesn't match the themes and style of the story as well. Main drawbacks is the lack of interactivity. Awesome story! As others have noted, this is not really a game, but more of a short novel you click through. There are some choices to be made, but they don't really affect much. The art is minimalist, and works well to convey the mood, etc. The music likewise is well done and changes to match story beats--it's pretty good all things considered and definitely stands out. The story is the most important element to this "game," and it is excellent--a though provoking take on what would happen if earth was conquered. What would be a reasonable expectation of the survivors? How would governments react; would they fight to the end, or fold and sacrifice the citizenry to save their stations? We follow the main character through her plight as a survivor, and the conditions she's forced to go along with while trying to come to terms with her new reality and what/if anything she can do to change it. If you catch it on sale and have a few hours to read, it's great! If you're expecting a game where player choices really matter, multiple endings, animated sex scenes, you will be disappointed. Is it a game? Not really. It is a click through visual novel with maybe six choices in the game, none of which really change the game. Did I enjoy reading the visual novel? More than most. It's short, the art could be better, and it could actually use some game play. Do I regret buying it, no. I'd wait for a sale. Would I like to see a fleshed out version of the game, yes.

I really wish there was an option to go in the middle, rather than recommend vs not recommend. This is more of a true visual novel, than most AVNs. There are very few choices, and what choices there are have absolutely zero impact of the story. You are never asked to make any major choices, you simply watch those play out. Even the first choice of the game, choosing to study or go to a party doesn't matter as neither event actually happens. The art is good, the story is decent. And I think you can certainly enjoy it. However, you will find yourself with no real impact on the game. While there are games that do that very well, like South Scrimshaw, I just don't think this is one of them. This is a game that leaves me wishing I could interact more. Especially since this dev studio also made The Survival of Sarah Rose. A game with many different paths and endings, that the player is directly respoinsible for. It's certainly not bad, but I was very disappointed by the complete lack of impact the player has on the story.

There are so many alternative paths I would have wished for - what if the prot had managed to somehow stay on earth and hide, surving in the altered society of earth after the invasion? Or *and some spoilers* what if the prot had made other design plans with the aliens? etc. etc. *end spoilers* lots of what ifs that could have been but weren't .... but despite the lack of choice points, the main story is extremly interesting, with enough twists, depth, and shock value to keep me mesmerised. The art styles were interesting as well . . . if you are okay with an adult game and okay with a mostly linear experience, I'd defiently recommend this one for the mesemersiing and often horrifying and always imaginative story - I give this visual novel 3.5 out of 5 collars.
