The Incident at Galley House

It's unfortunately not as engaging, challenging, or as consistently surprising as Evil Trout's previous effort, The Roottrees are Dead. Solid voice acting bolsters up a mild supernatural mystery that grew tiresome by the finale. Leans more visual novel than detective puzzler which was disappointing.

A really solid game. A bit less of a sprawling mystery than The Roottrees are Dead, but has its own interesting take on the genre. It feels like it's petering out towards the end of the timeline since the story is narrowing down before things pick up again.

This was an interesting adaptation of Type Help! I played the original game it was based on, but I wanted to support the devs and see how they went about bringing it to a more visual state. There are positives and negatives about the new format. The art is beautiful and the voice acting is wonderfully done, but those features also took away some of the ambiguity. I feel similarly about being able to plug in a location and confirm its existence without first finding a scene there. A system closer to how it was done for adding new people would have been a better option in my opinion (i.e. confirming after a scene is found rather than upon entering in the location code). Because of this, the puzzle felt easier than in Type Help. That said, the streamlining brings some good quality of life features, especially if you were ever frustrated by Type Help. What pushes this game to be something special is the new content it adds. I was along for the ride for most of the game since I was familiar with the story and just trying to experience it, but I was surprised when I ran into things I didn't recognize! I spent a long time with this game on my Wishlist, unsure if I would enjoy the mechanics. Decided to give it a try and holy f*ck I was sucked in. If you're thinking about playing this, do it. The mechanics are fun and interesting, it scratches the detective itch, but really it's the story that keeps you. The plot is so rich I couldn't stop playing until I had every piece of it. Play the game.

amazing, amazing story and gameplay. can't write much without spoiling, but this was my first mystery game and i loved it!
