A complete and utter Failure to Launch. First introduced back in Jan 2014, the game seemed like it had promise to re-deliver on one of the all-time great series: Magic Carpet 1 & 2. The developer seemed to have a vision that mirrored the gameplay and style of the originals, which truly were stunning for their time. Ten years pass, and the game is still barely an Alpha. And a hugely incomplete Alpha at that - most systems aren't working, or even in the game. There is barely any content to partake of. And when asked about development progress or dates, the excuse comes back about "real life getting in the way". It's been a broken record for 10 years now, while the game remains up on Steam. Honestly, it's projects like this that give Early Access a bad name, and re-label it Cash Grab. Intentions don't matter where the developer is concerned; delivery does. I've seen just one game on Steam in my ~19 years here that did as poorly: The Dead Linger. But even that was playable and simply went through a failed engine upgrade, after which it was abandoned due to funding. This one never really took off - it's like a plane without an engine, or wings, or wheels, or instruments. I…8 found this helpful
Game have some similarities to Magic Carpet for DOS, PS1, Saturn but it feels unfinished. Use different spells, can assign two at the same time and cast them using mana which replenish over time. Player can affect terrain and make hills and such but it's a bit unpolished. Raise castles, throw fireballs at enemies or cast lightning, there's plenty of spells to gather. Explore RNG world and conquer enemies, their structures and fight with flying serpent like monsters. No sound in game. Early access title with nice premise but bad execution.
4 found this helpful
"From hell's heart, I stab at thee. For hate's sake, I spit my last breath at thee." Shakespeare summarised my experience fairly well of this game. It is a rage inducing cacophony of failure. I use the word cacophony because it describes the headache producing noises in the game. Even on low, I found myself killing the birds in the sky in irritation. Nothing works, nothing will work and what exist is a spit in the face of God. In 1983 it was reported that truck fulls of the Atari game "E.T." were crushed, buried in a landfill which was then covered in cement. This was a fitting end, for what was considered the worst game ever created. That game has now been violently ejected from its unholy throne and a new king has taken its place. All hail Arcane Worlds, the worst game ever created.
Such a shame. This had real potential. The graphics are really pretty and the music is nice. But it's abandonware. There's nothing here.
It's a nice experience, not sure it will be ever finished or what that would look like. But I have not played another game quite like it and it's very chill, with some cool physics effects you wont find anywhere else.
I bought this back in 2014 I think. While it seemed like a cool premise at the time, it unfortunately wound up being an abandoned game. Why it is still available in early access over a decade later, I don't know. There is no more than 20 minutes of 'gameplay' to this, and that's only if you enjoy messing around with water and lava..
