[h1] Attack of the Train Apple Turkeys [/h1] Yeah. This game is as stupid as it sounds... and that's an honest compliment! Seriously, Attack of the Mutant Penguins is altogether a stupid game, with a stupid name, and even stupider gameplay... and yet still also surprisingly stupidly fun! Attack of the Mutant Penguins is just a weird little hidden gem that's fun for few hours. It’s got a goofy sense of humor, neat mechanics, and a charming and offbeat style that keeps things entertaining. It's such an abstract experience, and its intentionally overly convoluted gameplay loop and rules reminds me of the games me and my friends would come up with on the playground when we were kids. I love that. Overall, it's so unique that it's hard to compare it to anything, best I can say is "ToeJam & Earl"... but even that plays nothing like this game. My only real complaints are that the game can slow down a little when a lot of the penguin orbs are on-screen, and the tutorials always reappear whenever booting the game up again. It’s not perfect; but if you’re into quirky retro games, then this is a fun, lighthearted experience and certainly worthwhile checking out.

"Attack of the Mutant Penguins" is an ancient game from 1995, ported from the Atari Jaguar (yeah, Atari had a 16 bit console, and it died hard). It's a whopping 29 years old at the time of this review. The game lacks support for any modern gaming display resolutions (or widescreen monitors), hasn't been modernised or updated to run smoothly on modern gaming PCs. Despite this lack of modernisation, it carries a pretty high price tag for such an ancient game. This seems to have been put on Steam as a nostalgia gouge, or just a cash grab to try profit from abandonware. This is an obscure 2D top down brawler/action game with an esoteric "haha look at me I'm weird" theme, not a particularly popular genre to begin with, so failing badly at it was an impressive feat. You may be wondering why a crap rejected 1990's Atari Jaguar game belongs on Steam and the answer is, you're right, it doesn't. This is another abandonware cash grab by Piko Interactive, who swindle their hands onto old abandoned/broken/dead games then try to swindle Steam gamers into paying them for someone else's old abandoned game. An incredibly weird and interesting game unfortunately made [b]FAR[/b] too frustrating to recommend. [b]Attack of the Mutant Penguins[/b] is...[b]different[/b]. In some ways good, but in most ways bad. AotMP has a [b]super strange identity[/b] & [b]visual style[/b] that is only further enhanced by its even more [b]bizarre gameplay[/b] and [b]lack of music[/b]. It's a vibe, that's for sure...and believe it or not, that's [b]NOT[/b] a bad thing. In fact, Id argue the really weird choices this game makes from a presentation and concept standpoint is [b]EXACTLY[/b] what makes something like this worth looking at and experiencing.
