About Ayako's Mission

Ayako's Mission is a 2D Top-Down Shoot'em Up game based on the story of the war breaking out between the two territories called, AY Corp and ATO Corp.

This is the year of 2069 when the war broke out between the two territories, the AY Corp and the ATO Corp because of the border disputes. The ATO Corp claims the Agon island, situated near the border of the two territories, as theirs even though the island has always been the integral part of the AY Corp. The ATO Corp sent the advanced Fighter planes in the hope of forcefully taking over the island violating the Air space of the AY Corp. But soon after the invasion, they were met with a strong response from the AY Corp Air Force Department. It was reported that the ATO Corp built enemy bases and turrets secretly in the border area of the island and was preparing for the war.

The leader of AY Corp. commanded Ayako, one of the best Air Force Officers, to eliminate the enemy fighter planes invading the territory and to destroy the turrets built along the border. A special Super Jet, equipped with Laser weapons, plasma-powered machine gun, and giant plasma cannon, called 'AYCODE 5564' was built using the latest defense technology, especially for Ayako, in order to eliminate the enemy forces during war times.

You play as Ayako, the Air Officer, operating 'AYCODE 5564' plane and your mission is to protect your own territory at any cost. Will you be able to be successful in your mission?

Note: I am a solo indie game developer and I have created all of the graphics, artwork, animation, character design, programming except for the music. I hope you will enjoy the game.

✦ AI summary

Players describe this as a lazily-made template game that relies on repetitive level design and cheap difficulty spikes, with poor controller support and unbalanced gameplay that sometimes devolves into exploits or trivializing one-shot mechanics. However, some find it an acceptable short diversion for the price, appreciating its retro charm despite its obvious lack of polish or originality.

Ayako's Mission is a "template" flip. The "developer" filled out a basic 2D top down shoot'em up game template in the craptastic GameMaker Studio (a blight on gaming), changed the name/reskinned a couple of things, and put it on Steam as if it was their own game. The developer here is famous for having dumped a whopping 52 games copied from 3 different GameMaker Studio templates. That's a lot of copy + pasting with some minor reskins and level rearrangement... but none of these are serious, sincere games. 52 games, 3 templates. There's nothing genuine about these copy + paste games. To prove my point, here's two other flips from the same game asset from the same developer:

Warships on the Halloween Night
Proxy Air Force
Take a look for yourself... it's the same game! From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. A choice was made to use obsolete, decades old retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. …

Small shoot'em up very badly designed. Dodging is nearly impossible so there is a big life bar ! Not even playable with my Xbox One controller.

The levels become boring and repetitive levels after playing them once and the bossfights don't even feel cool since you deal no damage to them and before the level ends the game gives you a 1 shot beam so you don't lose. The game is not bad and I wouldn't give it a negative review since I mostly cheesed the game it's just that after some levels they discontinued it and put the same stuff with just a different map so you don't say that you play the same level. ( TIP = you can make your spaceship invisible by putting it on the sides of the screen but make sure to touch the end of the level cause it won't trigger )

Fun little game. Took ~50 minutes to complete. Only a couple of stages gave me some real trouble, but I was able to push through after a few tries. There's not a lot to it, and I'm honestly not a big fan of shoot-em-ups (vertical or horizontal), but I still enjoyed my time with it.

It's a short, simple, bit unpolished - yet fun, little game. Reminds me my own projects from TGF and MMF era - very nostalgic. Definitely worth a shot for a price given.

A fun little top-down shooter with some difficulty towards mid levels.
