Big Burger Store is a game that caught me off guard because I expected a simple burger cooking game and ended up finding something much stranger. The main idea is that I work in a burger shop, pushing giant pieces of food around to build the orders customers ask for. That alone is already a fun little concept, but then the game opens up into a small town where I can go fishing, fight monsters, play sports, visit an arcade and generally do things that have very little to do with running a burger shop. The cooking is probably the part I enjoyed the most. Instead of simply selecting ingredients from a menu, I physically push the huge food items around and try to put them together in the correct order. It feels simple, but there is something satisfying about getting everything lined up properly and completing an order. As I rank up, I can also improve my workstation, which gives me a reason to keep working rather than treating the burger making as a one off gimmick. What really surprised me is how much there is outside the restaurant. I can leave work and explore the town, talk to people and take on quests that gradually reveal more of the story.
