Bite the Bullet is a somewhat broken console ported 2D retro pixel side scrolling shooter. There's a few gimmicks like a mechanic that allows you to "eat" your enemies to recover health, but this doesn't make the game remotely better or more interesting than any other shovelware 2D retro pixel game. The game is broken for many users under recent builds of Windows 10 and 11, launching past the first splashscreen into an endless black screen... you can terminate this by switching desktops (win + -> keys) and then launching task manager to kill the stalled process. Surely the pinnacle of game development... not testing their game or making sure it runs on Windows. If you can get it to work, from a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. A choice was made to use obsolete, decades old retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result. The controls can't be customised, which will be an annoyance for many, but it can also render the game unplayable for differ…2 found this helpful
Bite the Bullet, developed by Mega Cat Studios and published by Graffiti Games, is a roguelite shooter that combines fast-paced action with an unusual and creative twist: the ability to consume enemies and objects to gain power. Set in a dystopian future where food scarcity has driven humanity to develop bionodes—implants that allow people to eat virtually anything—the game tasks players with battling mutated creatures known as ghouls while harvesting genetic material. This unusual premise immediately sets it apart from other run-and-gun games, as the act of eating is not just thematic but deeply integrated into both combat and character progression. The gameplay centers on the “Run, Gun, and Eat” loop, where players traverse levels teeming with enemies while simultaneously using firearms and the consumption mechanic to survive and grow stronger. The game features four distinct classes—Carnivore, Herbivore, Omnivore, and Robovore—each with unique abilities and dietary advantages that influence both combat and exploration strategies. Carnivores, for example, excel in close-range attacks, whereas Robovores can consume mechanical enemies and parts to enhance their arsenal. These diet…1 found this helpful
You would think it can't be that bad. But it is so dated, so slow. The basic idea was ok, but it is not good. Does not feel good to play.
An unique idea can still become repetitive and boring. I won't say is a bad game, but is far away from being great. Pros: - Unique Idea - Huge Upgrade Tree - Good Art Cons: - Repetitive Gameplay - Bland Music - Bad Writing
Despite the mixed reviews I decided to pick this up as it was really cheap in a bundle. Wish i hadn't bothered. Like almost every other user says, this game has a lot of potential: an original and intriguing premise, decent pixel art and music, and an interesting sounding upgrade path. But this is all for nought if it doesn't control well and it doesn't. There are only two controller configurations to choose from/grapple with and they are not very intuitive. Your character's movement just feels off and kind of janky. And there's something about the sound design or the animations that make it so you don't really know if you've hit or are hitting an enemy so it's just not very satisfying. Oh, and the wall jumping feels odd too and i found myself getting accidentally stuck to the sides or just slipping about. So in the end even the short time i spent with it just felt really frustrating.
Multiple times I mentioned the controls should feel responsive and easy to handle. If a player already has fun by just controlling a character, the Devs have done a solid start creating their game. "Bite The Bullet" isn't one of these games. I always thought the movements of the characters in this game would be similar to the ones in the Metal Slug series: fast, responsive, flexible, fun! Well, the controls feel the exact opposite. I will admit right now I didn't play a lot because of this issue…and some other ones. One another major problem I had was the amount of info you needed to take into account to play the game. A tutorial level exists but it doesn't help at all. I had this game on my bucket list for a while and I was ignoring the 'Mix' score it has on Steam. Well, I am at fault for this. 2/10.
