I rate Bulb Boy 3/5. This short, linear game is okay I guess, especially if you like point and click adventure games. Point and click style adventure games are not really my favorite kind of game. I haven’t played very many games of this type and when I have tried, I tend to get quickly frustrated with them. If I hadn’t gotten Bulb Boy for free during some sort of Steam promotional limited-time giveaway, I would never, ever have played it. Even so, I have seen a point and click style game done pretty well before. Blade Runner (I played the original 1997 disc version), was pretty good overall. Despite its restrictive, limited gameplay, its plot was interesting and it had heart (so it's not a totally foregone conclusion that this type of game is necessarily going to be awful). Of course, Bulb Boy is a very different game from Blade Runner, though its controls are extremely similar. Nearly everything is controlled with the mouse by left-clicking on different parts of the screen. Disgustingly good

Really don't get the complaints that some people have in their reviews? I found the puzzles quite intuitive, it also has a hint button to help if you're stuck but I only found myself pressing this two times during play, because I found the environmental signposting sufficient enough (as well as the cursor lighting up when something is interactable). With the limited items you collect, and the fact that they disappear after use... I feel like it was very tame in terms of puzzle difficulty!! Never felt too frustrated by what the game expected of me. I enjoyed the more abstract and grotesque storytelling, reminded me of a grosser/cruder version of Little Misfortune and Little Nightmares in terms of aesthetics and puzzle-solving. The story leans more vibes-based than an obviously coherent story, but I'm sure you could analyse all the imagery more in depth to get an interesting interpretation of a story. The chapter select after completing the game is also an appreciated addition as an achievement hunter, this is where I encountered my first (and only) bug - definitely not game breaking though. I'd never pay full price for this game, but since I have no idea how this appeared in my library I guess it was ok?

If you're willing to ignore the absolutely bull amount of trial and error this game requires only to be completed in less than three hours even with that trial and error, this is worth it. It's oddly charming despite being extremely gross. The type of cartoon gross-factor you'd see in The Adventure Time or Courage The Cowardly Dog, but turned all the way up. Overall it's a cute story about a boy who loved his grandpa and his dog with easy puzzles. It's good to remember: Bulb Boy doesn't have INERTIA. In the rolling/flying/swimming segments he will stop exactly where you last clicked except if you're on a hill/in a draft! This tip will spare you a lot of pain in the sewers and the last level especially.
