From one (former) dev to another, I totally get having your vision. Butler Guillotine is definitely a game of vision and clearly most people who played it like the vision. My mere 25 minutes of playtime felt like an hour. The dialogue, while all text, will not let you click to the next bit when a cutscene is playing. Cutscenes could easily have been twice as short. The writing was fine but the pacing of the cutscenes were so slow that anything that could of had any bite was lost on my impatience. I do not need nearly 10 seconds to read a single word. In those 25 minutes I did not understand anything about the plot or goal. Besides that for some reason picking up the gun forces me to kill myself, which my character refuses to acknowledge. Shock lacks value when it amounts to nothing. I wandered around, talked to a few butlers, and sat through a few painfully slow cutscenes. One of my biggest issues with video games is video games that make me wait. I don't want to wait. I want to play a video game. Cutscenes? BUTLER GUILLOTINE is a horror game that feels more like stepping into a fractured stage play than playing a traditional adventure title. Developed by GOODBYE STATIC and published by NECRONOMISOFT, the game fully embraces surrealism, psychological horror, and absurd theatrical storytelling to create an experience that constantly feels unstable and dreamlike. This is an incredible game, an absolutely exceptional experience. It is surreal and beautiful, sad and also charming with unexpected humour. The horror elements worked so well, grotesque, disturbing, while still being sombre. A weird, theatrical and artistic masterpiece. When I left a review for Lorelei and the Laser Eyes I wrote that it was the most stylish game I have ever played. This may top that. Or at least match it. It is simply gorgeous. And while the gameplay of L&tLE is full of complex puzzles, Butler Guillotine's point and click exploration and narrative journey did remind me stylistically and thematically of that game in places. The cut scenes can be slow paced and languid, and the walk/run speed may not be to everyone's taste. But for me this was truly a visual, narrative, storytelling and classical musical treat through and through. I really loved it.

If you like your games weird and atmospheric, do yourself a favour and give this a try. We need more people making unapologetically idiosyncratic stuff like this.

It was a really good and weird game. I think I picked up most of what was going on. But still left me with some questions at the end. Only thing I'd recommend is that the creator adds a copyright free version of music for streamers.
