About Call Hating

Call Hating is a DOS-era retro-inspired point-and-click game that answers the question "What could go wrong?"

In Call Hating, you play the role of an aging, forgetful work-from-home worker who hasn't exactly kept up with the latest technology in your home office. When your smartphone breaks and your internet connection goes down, it's up to you to reclaim your bandwidth using obsolete and outdated tech around your house.

With plot and narration inspired by classics such as The Stanley Parable and Portal, Call Hating is a work-from-home simulator wrapped in an escape room, stuffed with minigames, and baked in a 500-degree oven of dark and fourth wall-breaking humor. Explore multiple endings that hinge on the choices you make.

As someone who grew up in the late 80s and through the 90s and was the "tech support" for the family - this game was incredibly fun to play through and intensely nostalgic and familiar. It's a beautiful ~7 room puzzle box with so much to discover. It's criminal that more people haven't played this - you highly owe it to yourself to play it!

This game nearly broke me. I hate you devs, well done. lmao edit: I beat the game in 11 hours, not 175 hours as is currently displayed. you got me again.

I love and hate this game. Bugs get in the way. Rushing through some of the phone inputs bugged out my call. I frequently couldn’t put the cd-rom in the disc drive, it would just access the computer screen. The action sequences were not fun. The last one was just boring. Making the list of information I needed and figuring out the routine was delightful. It was like a mix of a classic escape room puzzling and the data deduction from newer games like Case of the Golden Idol. The art and humor are perfect. I laughed a bit at several of the gags the first time I encountered them, but not so much the fifth or sixth time. Comedically antagonizing the player was the entire point according to the dev. It’s fun for a while. If one piece of information evades you it will get tiring. Expect to restart a lot until you wrap your head around everything (or because a bug pops up).

Fun little puzzle game that's surprisingly deep. This doesn't suffer from any insane puzzle game logic that's impossible to parse - everything is ridiculously realistic. The animations are cute and charming, and everything 'works' like you'd expect it to. The 'final' boss fight is sort of annoying but not too bad if you just keep spamming commands. Now just to figure out how to get to the secret endings...

It could be a good game, but it isn't. Not only because by design you have to play the game over and over to beat it (which is questionable design choice in case of a puzzle game). Not only because the game is time bound and there is not much time even you know what you have to do. But also because the game is very easy to break - one extra click and notebook won't start or radio won't open. Most of my attempts were ruined by the bugs. Not recommend.

This game is the perfect mix of frustration and fun. You will get pissed off, but you'll keep playing, and playing, and trying again, and losing, and trying again. The soul in this game is unmatched and it is all around a fantastic indie game made by INCREDIBLY passionate people.
