Cannon Ball is a small free game built around one simple idea, shooting another cannon in a turn based battle. I get a 1 on 1 match where I have to aim my cannon, choose the right shell and use the terrain to get a hit. The basic setup reminds me of those old artillery games where getting the angle and power right matters more than having complicated controls. I like how quickly I can understand what I am supposed to do, although the game is definitely more enjoyable when I have someone to actually play against. The different shells give the matches a little more depth than just firing normal cannonballs at each other. I can use normal shells, fire shells and poison shells, so I have to think about what kind of attack makes sense for the situation. Fire can create dangerous areas around the battlefield, while poison can make certain parts of the terrain unsafe. I like having these options because they give me a reason to think about my next shot instead of simply aiming directly at the enemy every turn. The terrain is probably the part I find most interesting. Bushes can hide me and make it harder to aim at my position, while ponds can reduce incoming damage. At the same time, a …
