Carry Onward

I feel like I need to make a game to express my guilt in giving this a Do Not Recommend. But jokes aside...this isn't a terrible experience. It isn't really a game, per say. The game opens with the background of the character, with you choosing one of two options in various scenes (I think identical to Firewatch). Unlike Firewatch, I didn't really feel connected to either the main character or the character in his past when it was over. Once the game begins, you explore the four room house (five, at the end). You click on items around the rooms, and then pick a one-word summary of the item with very little context. I clicked on a cutting board on a kitchen counter, and got options like "Memories" and "Nourishment", and then the character pontificates about the option selected. I think it turns out the cutting board represented recipes? There wasn't a ton of context as to what I was reacting to, and hence with it being sort of "random" what my reaction meant that I was choosing, I was a bit detached from the results. What a wonderful little gem. I bought this game on sale but now even seeing it I want to pay more! It's well worth the asking price of $4.99, just know that it's a short short "game" but more importantly its an emotional work of art. I've only been through 1 possible version, but I see the tags say that it has multiple endings. Maybe I'll go through it another time or two down the line. Thank you for this devs!

15-20 minute narrative short about a man packing up his house and dealing with his grief over his dead wife. Nothing interesting here on either a mechanical or narrative level; sure, it's short, but there are plenty of better walking sims you can play instead.

Good story, decent graphics, kinda slow gameplay but its clearly ment as a short story game rather then a fleshed out concept

This game is very short, but it does have multiple endings, so you can immediately replay it. I do like the narration and the design/atmosphere of the game. That being said the gameplay isn't terribly exciting, so trying to get a different ending ends up mostly being just impatiently going through all the actions again to get to the ending. I'm not sure what affects the edning, but I have the feeling that most of the choices don't actually matter. I have gotten 2 endings which were both "good" satisfying endings and I assume the other endings are the same (I feel like maybe a bit more diversity in the endings would be good, but I will reserve my judgement until I have all endings). I will eventually play again to get all endings, it is a nice little story about grief and moving on. I got the game on sale for 1$, I don't think I would recommend buying it for normal price, just because of the small amount of content you get.

I like this game, but it is very short and basic on the gameplay side. Music is good, graphics are good for a single dev, and it has no bugs. For a few dollars I didn't think it would be anything more than what it is. Anyone expecting some type of 10/10 novel within this game will be disappointed though. As you see, it is 20 minutes and not 20 hours long.
