Cavebound

A cool concept, but it simply is nothing more than that. This project is not optimised for multiplayer play. I bought 3 copies of this when on sale, and played with 2 other friends and right out the gate it worked, but it was after our first match our issues occurred. We decided to back out to use the very limited character customisation options to set ourselves up for differentiating purposes. One friend crashed while opening the menu and he was not able to relaunch the game. Tried verifying files, and uninstalling and reinstalling, and was never able to get it to work again. Straight up would not launch. The other friend and myself tried to make a new lobby to try another run while waiting for the unlaunchable friend to try and figure it out. We used the EXACT same steps as before to start a lobby as described in the multiplayer menus, and it wasn't working. We got it to work once more by just doing it over and over again, but decided we had enough since gameplay mechanics are practically none existent, and the "Worm" was very unforgiving if you were near a wall when the screen started shaking. This game is actually really well made. It's challenging, fun, and polished. It's a small game but with a lot of effort and love put in to it

Cavebound is a 2D retro pixel platespinning/monster avoiding game, conceptually not so different than games like Five Nights at Freddies, where you have a number of controls/machines you have to look after as you count down the clock on your shift. Unlike a haunted robot pizza parlour, this takes place in a lazy, badly designed 2D retro pixel coal mine, and you get attacked by a magic worm. It's evident from this that as much serious effort went into conceptual design as the actual technical implementation... none whatsoever. A choice was made to use obsolete, decades old retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result. There's no options to change the resolution for the game or customise the graphics settings. There's no way for gamers to ensure this is running at the native resolution of their displays... there's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision.
