Driving feels familiar right away, borrowing heavily from other kart racers, so there isn’t much of a learning curve. You’ll be holding down the throttle almost the entire time thanks to the arcade-style handling, and drifting is key to keeping your speed through corners. You trigger a drift by holding the jump button while turning into a corner, and once you get the hang of it, it becomes second nature. Drifting isn’t just about maintaining speed, though. It also builds up a boost that you release when you let go of the button. The longer the drift, the stronger the boost, and the game shows this nicely through the color of the sparks flying from your kart. Boosting plays a big role overall, and there are a few different ways to get it. You can time a jump perfectly as you leave a ramp, drive over boost pads, or collect hearts. The heart boost only works when you have a full set, and every time you get hit by a weapon, you lose one. Even if you lose them all, nothing drastic happens. You just lose that extra boost option. Thankfully, hearts are easy to find, so getting back to full isn’t much of a hassle. Of course, it wouldn’t be a kart racer without power-ups and weapons. Each…1 found this helpful
