Conquest: Medieval Kingdoms

This does seem like a solid game, I didn't encounter any glitches, but I felt it was very slow, and refunded it. Building projects take between 6-12 turns, and your starting area is not always large enough to support an army. I ended up in debt before I was able to build enough forests to get a net positive amount of wood income. If you have the patience to hit the start button a few times you'll probably come across an area that works. I tried out the combat as well, the system places your army for you, and the tactical maps are quite small, so I found the enemy was attacking me before my army was in position to fight well. I think the game has a lot of potential, it's small and has low requirements, so the sort of thing I can imagine playing on a laptop on a long train journey or flight etc, but between this and Medieval Total War 2, I would just replay Medieval 2.

The UI is absolutely unreadable and there's no options to tweak it at all. There's no options for anything other than unit scale and music volume, and the lag in larger battles basically makes the battle unplayable. Building anything also takes an unholy amount of turns, to the point where you're basically ending turn six or nine times in a minute just to be able to recruit units. Other than that it's pretty a'ight tho. It's a poor man's total war for sure, but it's a 'promising' one. Everything it needs to be amazing is right there. It just needs to be better.

Controls and unit commands are insufficient for the game. Lack of camera controls and forced flip to unit crap is awful. Rock paper scissors combat not medieval combat. I really just wanted a procgen Medieval Total War. I had no idea what that really meant for faction units etc but thats what i was hoping for. Screenshots made it look like either Shogun or Medieval 1

Revising my review. Still a thumbs up. BUT if the game starts you in a corner of the map and you are surrounded by kingdoms who have a few allies, you won't have much to do unless you're willing to declare war on a neighbor and risk a brutal ganking.
