Cthulhu Tower suffers from significant technical issues and poor design choices that undermine its Lovecraftian aesthetic. Players frequently encounter game-breaking bugs like tile placement glitches and population counter errors, while the lack of control customization and incomplete tutorial explanation frustrate those trying to learn the mechanics. Some appreciate the atmospheric visuals and Lovecraftian theme, but most feel the game feels incomplete and unpolished for its asking price.
Cthulhu Tower looks, sounds, feels, and plays a lot like a Flash game from the mid-2000s, and early gameplay doesn't feel like it has the charm that they needed to compete against their more traditional counterparts. The lack of control customization combined with the lack of a visible, complete control map add an annoyance factor to the game as well. The main menu shows WASD and left mouse click implying that those are the only controls. The tutorial then introduces I for inventory, B for unknown, and right-clicking to remove objects under specific circumstances. Because my normal directional control scheme for these sorts of games is FWAE instead of WASD I needed to use AutoHotkey to "remap" the controls at the start of the game and then again later on when it introduced 'I' for your inventory since taking your hand off your movement keys to go in and out of your inventory on a regular basis is *not* a good idea with the early pacing in this game. Of course it turned out that remapping the control keys may be pointless as they have yet to actually affect the game and did not have any apparent effect before I remapped them. The game's UI is also clunky. The interface windo…6 found this helpful
I can't recommend this game, it feels incomplete. I assume a glitch happened to me early on where I couldn't place floor tiles down correctly, they only placed to the top left of square of where I wanted them and if I click and held I could actually place multiple floors on the same spot. I couldn't expand the towers to the bottom right, only to the top left, top right and bottom left. I don't think the multiple floor tiles effected anything, in terms of gameplay, but I didn't bother checking because of the tower placement system. The towers from what I can tell are based on a population count in the top right and it seemed like I hit the cap and exceeded it. I wasn't able to place anymore because somehow I placed 57/50 population. I think there was an idea that you could increase the pop cap somehow, but I don't think it exists. There is also a system for walls and from what I can tell, on top of each other so that you have a wall to block a path or act as a defensive structure to guide the villagers, but I couldn't get it to work more than when the tutorial told me to do it. I think it again has to do with the pop cap. At one point I decided not to invest in a weapon and only…1 found this helpful

a bad flash game with too many bugs and doesnt explain itself very well. not even worth the dollar I spent
A charming game with a coat of Lovecraftian paint. Though I feel that the controls could have been better explained during the tutorial.
Couldn't make it through the tutorial without bugs, making it impossible to play.
