Art and music are great, no complaints. The writing has a huge number of ChatGPT-isms, but not all of it - my guess is it's at least co-authored. The writing isn't [i]bad[/i] but once I started keying into the AI verbosity and empty rhetorical flourishes my eyes kinda glazed over. The actual idler/clicker game design is not good. Since I was primed by the writing, I started to think it might have also been largely designed by AI. Even if not, it suffers from similar problems - there's no interplay between different systems, and most of the upgrades "play it safe" as though they were designed without a cohesive vision for the game's progression. There are numerous upgrades that increase one producer's output by 5-10% or give you a flat amount of a resource like 1 or 2 per second - as if to ensure no one thing tips the scales too much in your favor, despite that being the fun part of incremental games. Like, it takes ~90mins of pure idling to get to second prestige [i]with[/i] all the available upgrades (not including a very expensive stackable +2 per second, which barely changes the math) and you can obtain those upgrades in like 15 minutes. It's a waiting simulator. Technically you can do a build for active clicking, but why? It's literally just clicking a bunch of times. The lore is cool but the game mechanics are boring. I love idle/incremental games like Melvor Idle or Shell Diver, the former especially also includes a bunch of waiting but they have so many systems with synergies that waiting flies by fast while you plan other stuff out. Waiting is not fun in this game, and you're going to be doing a bunch of it. There are no offline gains either so you need to have the game open while you twiddle your thumbs. Nah, I'd rather do something else.

Cult of the Yellow King is a game I absolutely adore for many reasons. First of all, the art style and general theme is really ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ cool. It's like eldtrich horror meets wendigoons yt channels art style, and I love it. The art itself is also between pretty and disturbing/uncanny (a lot of the shrines trigger uncanny valley for me, esp the first one. oh boy does that mouth freak me out.) The static effect is a nice touch and nicer still is you can turn off the visual noise if you want to. I especially love the little lore pages you're interspersed with when you're playing, it really helps the story flow and helps you understand what is actually going on. Without those pages I would be very very confused. There's art accompanying them which looks, in the best way possible, dirty and mouldy. Mwah. That's exactly what this game needs. A weird, almost humid art style and it does it so well. Also, everything is yellow. Very on theme. As for the writing in the game, I do really love the descriptions of each level/machine you go through. Extremely promising so far. I'm not normally a fan of clicker games, but I am a fan of the King in Yellow. This is an impressive implementation of both. Despite having a few mechanical/technical kinks to work out the game itself is solid. As you play an actual story line progresses, which keeps you invested and breaks up the monotony typically found in this kind of game. As you play the screen fills up with excellently grotesque artwork. The black metal soundtrack is excellent, too.

amazing idle game, i've always been a big fan of idle games and a huge fan of Lovecraft and the broader Cthulhu mythos and this game blends both perfectly with a story that is actually very interesting to follow and as a metal head the sound track is amazing, honestly could not ask for a better game saw the game title in a meme with no context and decided to look into it and absolutely stuck gold
