CyclingArcadeRaceSimulator is a pretty unusual cycling game, and I liked the idea of turning an indoor bike workout into an actual racing experience. Instead of using normal keyboard or controller controls, I have to pedal on a compatible smart trainer and let my real effort control what happens on screen. That makes the game feel much more physical than a typical racing game. The racing itself is straightforward but surprisingly satisfying. My pedaling power affects my speed, while climbs and other changes in the track make me work harder at the right moments. I liked that the game does not completely separate exercise from competition. I am actually using my own effort to move through the race, which makes catching another rider or reaching the finish feel much more rewarding. One of the best ideas is the way the opponents adapt to my fitness level. The game uses FTP to adjust the competition, so I am not simply racing against a fixed difficulty. I liked this because it gives me a reason to keep pushing myself without making every race feel impossible. As I improve, the competition can improve with me, which creates a nice training loop.
