About Daily Chthonicle: Editor's Edition
✦ AI summary
Run a supernatural newspaper agency in a dark 1940s-noir town, sending your team of journalists and occult specialists to investigate murders and uncover whether the culprit is a werewolf, body-stealing alien, vengeful mummy, or something far worse. Each case unfolds differently with procedural investigation and Lovecraftian horror, challenging you to expose the truth while keeping your readers entertained and your team alive.

This game lets you try on the role of a Supernatural Newspaper Agency boss and editor. The world it takes place in is a dark and haunted one, with ghosts, zombies, monsters and even shapeshifting murderers, pretending to be human after they have stolen their victims' bodies or infiltrated the humanity. It was inspired heavily by the works of H.P.Lovecraft and it builds on the atmosphere of uncertainty and noir of the 1940s.
Send your sextet of weathered journalists, detectives and occult specialists to investigate murder, affair, and horror in the Town.
Each time, the story will be different. Sometimes, a werewolf is shredding innocent (and less innocent) victims to pieces and it is your task to unmask the creature. Other times, it will be a body stealing alien from outer space, a mummy that some misfortunate archeologist has excavated and is now haunting them. Perhaps it will be Jack the Ripper, still mysteriously alive and lurking in the streets at night.
Or maybe there is a really bad big tentacled monster hidden in the cellar of the University?
It is for you to find out and entertain your readers while bravely standing up against ancient evil.

Sorry but this game just isn't for me. I found it quite boring.10 found this helpful
A surprisingly fun mix of editing and cooking gameplay graphics are a bit dated but the engaging mechanics make you feel like a real editor and chef in one chaotic package.2 found this helpful
Behind one of the most user-unfriendly interfaces I've ever encountered hides a rough gem of a game. I confess that I mostly got it because I liked the basic theme it was dirt-cheap (less than $1 on sale). While I enjoyed the pulp-noir Lovecraft style, at first I had no idea what I was doing and it felt boring. But once I finally got the hang of the UI and how the game works, and moved on to Medium difficulty, the game slowly began to draw me in. Figuring out how to overcome the various and increasingly alien and hideous obstacles the game throws into your reporters' way can be very satisfying. Mind you, there are some caveats apart from the very obtuse UI. At first glance this might look a game focused on deduction and investigation, and while there's some of that, it's really more like a mix of Solitaire and the boardgame Arkham Horror (and therefore also broadly similar to the much more famous World of Horror). The game really revolves around deducing your enemies' weaknesses and preparing accordingly, as well as finding good loot and allies. The procedurally generated cases rarely make for compelling narratives (though using your imagination helps fill in the blanks), so if …
i would love more to this game. its my favorite
I cannot get a sense of how to play this.
TW/CW: Arachnophobia/Spiders One of the first enemies I encountered was a spider which is depicted using a black and white photo of a real spider. It triggered my arachnophobia pretty badly but I was able to make it though. Other than that, the game is very meh and the controls are janky. Its definitely showing its age
