Deadly Premonition: The Director's Cut

Famous for being one of the best examples of a "cult game", Deadly Premonition is one I was very ready and keen to hate because, let's sumarize: Visuals are trash. Sound design is broken. Presentation in general is lazy. Gameplay is awful. Mechanics are broken, but… I played it, I carried on and... even though I didnt finished I really respect what it tried to do and made me very interested in the story. So, what's happening here? Well, the setting, atmosphere and writing are so, so good, so top notch that they single handedly carry this ♥♥♥♥♥♥ game on their shoulders. Characters are amazing, script is great and York is a FANTASTIC protagonist, completely crazy but very likeable, love him! And the story, even though it's wacky, has a lot of heart and genuinly touching moments. The thing is... gameplay it's a damn slog, it's simply not fun enough, it's actually frustrating. I feel like if I carried on playing I would have started to hate the game itself, I know I was already starting to with that damn QTE double cam chase scene, jesus christ. the pc port is diabolical and the gameplay is rough but otherwise this game is an actual masterpiece, highly recommend if you enjoy David lynch-esque surrealism

FK in my coffee! One of my favorite games. Basically Twin Peaks as a game.

[strike]I tried every suggested fix I could find online, I tried mods, I disabled all overlays; I simply could not get this game to run smoothly, it never seemed to get above 15 fps. I've seen some partial playthroughs on youtube and had wanted to experience it for myself, so I still pushed and tried to play it.[/strike] [i]So I built this system, and I didn't have ReBAR enabled, which makes all the difference. Check your BIOS/UEFI if you're having unplayable framerates.[/i] I finished the first hospital arc and ran into a game-breaking bug where the program would just crash during the cutscene. I'm not willing to use someone else's save to bypass this, so I'm done. Frankly, no product that has game-breaking bugs this severe should be purchasable on any storefront.

I don't think this game had the potential that it was going to become something great, but I was still somewhat invested to complete it. The surreal tone made it somewhat of an interesting adventure to explore despite not being very scary or polished in the slightest. However, the bugs are what kill it for me. Rough-around-the-edges is one thing, but a buggy broken mess is another. And this game is unfortunately closer towards the latter. It's apparently really easy to softlock the game by saving and quitting while holding onto "Story Keys", but even while I managed to avoid it, I still apparently could not save the game while replaying a chapter. Which isn't even a glitch, but an intentional design choice. And with how much there is to do in replays, that was the point where I drew the line. It has some personality, but it's just not held together well enough to have the patience to sit through.

looks cool but i wouldn't make the same mistake i did, i knew i was in trouble when the other cars on the road turned off the road and fell through the ground, it only got worse from there on out, menus that don't work properly buttons not registering inputs. all i can really say is what a mess, this should not be sold in this state.
