I can't tolerate this game. I thought it was going to be a deep investigation and was willing to put up the appearance if it succeeded on that. It doesn't. The story is barely coherent, and every single character blathers on in these ridiculous performative ramblings that are intended to sound mysterious and cool but instead are just tedious and pointless, getting in the way of advance whatever plot points and character development there might be. It didn't take me long to realize this is also a collectathon, with the items being either currency used to unlock fast travel so you don't have to do the tedious wandering anymore or merely decorative items that serve no purpose. Tons of random "lore" items with single sentence descriptions attaching them to nothing and meaning nothing. It might actually be okay if every single item pickup wasn't such a big production. Like letting me hover of things and see the descriptions would give them the proper low-importance signaling they deserve. Also, if you're collecting items that allow you to skip environment navigation, that might be a clue that you've got a design flaw in your game. Man ♥♥♥♥ me. This game came out in 2020 and feels like it is still ahead of its time. This is probably the BEST detective game I have ever played. It forces you to think through theories, and the set up is good enough that you have to do the one thing that detective games always fail to do: theorise. Even when you have all the evidence, it is not just a simple obvious answer as to the motives and mechanics of what happened. The lore is also incredibly eerie. And you can easily call the game "vaporwave" which is true. But this really is the first game that seriously tries to imagine not just what a vaporwave aesthetic would look like, but a vaporwave world, lore, story and characters. It is bizarre in the best possible way. This joins look outside as a game that does "eldritch horror" in a unique way, not just in terms of lore but in terms of the feeling it is trying to get you to feel. Most detective style games are in truth narrative games with an overall mystery. Here, we have a true detective game with a cool story. I really strongly recommend this.

This is a nonlinear visual novel with elements of open-world exploration. In all of those aspects the game is near perfect: - The characters are unique and interesting, both visually and story-wise - The overall mystery is engaging - the game gives you just enough info to make you interested and wonder without spoiling too much - The world is not that massive but every location feels entirely unique - The OST is a banger - The visuals are immaculate It's one of the best "story games" that I've ever played, if not THE best.
