About Deep Russian Depression

Game Current Status

Now, only the pilot chapter of the main story is available, which demonstrates gameplay mechanics, the developer's narrative style, and the story's introduction. The scenario of the main story already exists (most respondents found it well), but the developer has critical problems with filling the game with content: graphics, music and random events. The release has been promised for February 24, 2024, so game is being released in Early Access.

Find Your Own Role In Game Development

The game already has a basis for creating visual novels with role-playing game elements: everyone who interested in this opportunity may purchase this game, create own visual novel as a mod for Deep Russian Depression and publish it in the Steam Workshop.

If you have talents instead creating visual novels but you want to be a part of the game's development, publish your creations in the Steam Workshop too. The best creations will be approved and added to the game, allowing their creators to receive monetary rewards.

If you are not willing to be a part of the game's development or patiently wait for its completion, then don't buy the game now, because you may be disappointed.

Main Story Concept

Deep Russian Depression is a visual novel about existence somewhere in post-Soviet Russia at the beggining of the 21st century. The protagonist of this story is a young person of his time at the crucial moment in his life. Confronted with various challenges, you will have to make decisions that impact the personal qualities of the hero and determine his destiny.

Playable character has six characteristics, which stats determine how various events will unfold. Moreover, all characteristics get random stats at the beginning of the story, which can make each reading of the story different from others.

Sometimes during the game, there will be small but varied random events unrelated to the main storyline. Completing these events, your character will get various buffs and debuffs, which will affect the character's stats entire all storyline.

After playing this game for over two hours I can confidently say that this game is indeed very deep and deppressing. However, there are some drawbacks since the game isn't fully released yet. That doesn't mean, however, this shouldn't be bought. I can see that this game has a ton of potential and the creator should be supported. One euro is pretty much nothing to anyones wallet so why not support them a little? Keep up the good work!

Deep Russian Depression is one of the most emotionally oppressive and strangely fascinating indie visual novel projects currently available on Steam, presenting a bleak mixture of psychological horror, post-Soviet social commentary, philosophical introspection, and existential despair wrapped inside an experimental narrative framework that feels deeply personal and intentionally uncomfortable. Developed and published by Pyconcux, the game does not attempt to entertain in the traditional sense. Instead, it immerses players in a world shaped by hopelessness, emotional exhaustion, economic uncertainty, and social decay, creating an atmosphere where even ordinary conversations feel heavy with anxiety and resignation. Rather than relying on romance, escapism, or dramatic fantasy like many visual novels, Deep Russian Depression focuses almost entirely on emotional suffering and psychological deterioration. The result is a project that often feels less like a game and more like an interactive expression of cultural frustration, loneliness, and existential collapse. The setting revolves around life somewhere within post-Soviet Russia during the early years of the twenty-first century, tho…
