About Depersonalization
Depersonalization is a Cthulhu Mythos tabletop RPG where you investigate branching mysteries across shattered timelines, rolling dice to uncover clues while choosing how to approach challenges through dialogue, stealth, magic, or cunning rather than just combat. With hundreds of thousands of words across dozens of modules, collectible spells, companions, and story endings, plus a full creation suite letting you design and share your own adventures, it's an endless playground for both players and storytellers.
"Depersonalization" is a role-playing game based on the Cthulhu Mythos.
In the game, you will find yourself in a timeless library beyond the river of time. As the creation of Yog-Sothoth and the embodiment of Her will—the Star Key, you will cross the Gate on Her behalf to various worlds to mend shattered timelines. Currently, the game has successfully launched 4 exploration modules, 1 text module, 1 rules module, and the highly anticipated large module "Cursenday's Black Carnival", with a total game text volume accumulated to 450,000 words. Moreover, the game's main interface features a creation mode, allowing players to use the editor to create and publish original modules. This is a game that captures the essence of the Cthulhu Mythos and tabletop role-playing.
In each module, you will play as an investigator, collecting clues, rolling dice for success in checks, triggering events, and gradually approaching (or distancing yourself from) the truth of the story. If you are a novice player, "Depersonalization" can help you quickly familiarize yourself with the tabletop role-playing process and experience the unique joy of randomness. Our story draws inspiration from the Cthulhu Mythos, which may be bizarre, thrilling, and intriguing, but it is not solely designed to bring about fear.To uncover the truth, sometimes perhaps... any means are justified?
You can bribe, steal, trade, or appease the characters in the story, and the different actions you take will lead the story to different directions. Why must victory be achieved through combat? Try stealth, delivering a fatal blow to the target, or using intimidation to make the target flee. If you learn some forbidden knowledge, magic will be the key to defeating your enemies.(But there might be additional side effects (lmao), so use it cautiously!)This is a game that emphasizes collectible content.
Our collectible content includes module endings, character traits, spells, companions, and mythos items. Exploring forbidden knowledge in the modules will allow your investigator character to harness the power to cast spells. Throughout the story, you will encounter many new characters and unlock their unique stories. As the story progresses, they will become your companions, standing by your side and fighting with you. Additionally, each story hides unique mythos items. Collecting and skillfully using these items will bring extraordinary power-ups to your character. Each module has different endings, and once you achieve these endings, all your characters can inherit these experiences, thus unlocking exclusive collectible content unique to that ending. Your investigator character will undergo unique adventures, and these experiences will transform into traits, granting your character special abilities. This is also a story creation platform.
The game features a powerful story editor, allowing creators the freedom to craft all content within the game. If you are passionate about writing, you can use the editor to create text modules in the style of visual novels. If you are skilled at building game mechanics, then crafting rules-based modules will be an excellent way to showcase your design talents. If you yearn to create a more free and open game world, then making exploration modules will fulfill that desire. Currently, there are over 50 playable modules available in the Workshop, and regular module co-creation events are being held on an ongoing basis!DLC & expansions

Overall mechanics of the game is complex to understand at first like how it does dice rolls and numbers which i still don't completely understand coming from games like bg3 and the many different options available to you in combat. The biggest strong point of the game is definitely the story and its multiple endings which are not a slog and not too long to go through so its pretty easy to commit and finish them. However it very much is not a finished game as there are still missing translations and bugs in the controls which gives a bit of frustration while playing. Picking up the game at first wasn't easy as I had to look up how the dice rolls worked in the game before I was able understand how much risks some decisions took as there isn't really a proper tutorial to the game.
It's a Chinese Lovecraftian horror(lite) anime TTRPG sim(kinda). As ridiculous as the premise sounds; it somehow works. The translation isn't complete, but the translate app on my phone works well enough. The translations that have been done don't always make perfect sense, but overall for a story involving time travel and unknowable things beyond the limits of human comprehension; it works. All in all, the modules that are here are pretty good, so far. There's a whole system running under the hood that has some potential. Pick up a copy, support the devs. By the sound of things; they need it, and I'd like to see what this game can really do.
Story is awesome
Edit: the more i play through it, the more i would say my review stands with the caveat, that i would not play more then $6 for this game. its fun, dont get me wrong, but on top of bugs, as ive gone through more modules ive found more and more dialogue that makes no sense, and while there are translation issues, these is not a result of bad translation. as such it negatively some of the modules and limits the amount of available good content. i still recommend the game, its a lot of fun. just dont pay $20 for it. Its definitely got some problems, its buggy, got some weird translation issues, and downright just has minimal english support. I really like it though and they did the best job of any game that ive tried so far in implementing call of cthulus systems.
This game is a great example of great idea being tigthened by lack of the funds. And while it is pretty much unlikely that we will see more official modules, I think what currently available in this game is more than justifices its asking price, even with luckluster translation. Modules quality can vary, but overall all exploration modules are very much interesting playing first time when you have no idea what to expect, after which you can start hunting for true ending. Although getting true ending on first run can be unexpected disadvantage since it kind of kills desire to replay as all early endings are for the most part bad ones story wise. Doesn't change the fact that getting true ending in Carnival when I played it first time was quite satisfying My ranking for modules is as following: 1. Carnival - A veryh lengthy experience (2-4 evenings) with tons of locations to explore, not to mention artifacts to find. Story itself fumbles at the end a bit with pacing, but overall it is quite great mystery, although I do not recommend this module as first one since some battles can be challenging without extra partners or spell protection. Because this module is long and its difficult…
