DEFENDER OF EARTH VS THE ALIEN ARMADA is, believe it or not, not an asset flip. Sure, the bulk of the game is made from the Tower Defense Toolkit developed and sold on the Unity Asset Store by the developers, SongGameDev. While the majority of the use of store assets is in unethical asset flips, it's true that there are genuine use cases for store assets, and "DEFENDER OF EARTH VS THE ALIEN ARMADA" is an example of how this is done right. There's two tests for what makes a game an asset flip. First, whether store/stock assets make up the majority of the game, and whether the developer credited the people who did most of the work creating the assets that make up the game. And I'm both surprised and delighted to note that developer here has acted professionally and passed both tests. They've added consirable game assets of their own creation, and they correctly admit the game is basically just made from the Tower Defense Toolkit. However, beyond just using their own assets, there's also a first person shooter turret mode where you can control a turret directly... this doe…

A fairly basic an not too pretty tower defense where your towers take damage, which means that you'll spend most of your time trying to repair them all or fail and spend your time rebuilding them all. Couldn't get into it, the constant repairing/rebuilding paired with strange balance and progression made me give up. On the bright side, I thought the "First person mode" which lets you aim and fire a turret was interesting, though pointless and actually bad since your turrets will end up being destroyed while you do this.

I don't get the bad reviews for this game. It is a tower defense game. If you don't play tower defense games or like tower defense games why review this game? I like tower defense games. Is this the best game ever ...no. But it is a different theme than other tower defense games and it requires your full attention. Yes the ships shoot back that's the point of this game. I guess it could be frustrating if you don't like tower defense games or have a short attention span, to begin with, but building and rebuilding is the challenge. duh. Anyhow the game is challenging and fun. It has some bugs with the placement of UI text. Graphically it is nice definitely not next gen per say but not horrible for a two-person team according to the credits. The story is a bit sci-fy retro feeling and not very in-depth but again it is a tower defense game and there is a story here other then orks elves and the usual fair. If you like TD and are looking for something different give it a try.

I love this game. Cannot stop playing it. If you are looking for a fun game and something the kids can play, I would recommend this. The work that went into this is just stunning and this is a game that needs to be in your library. Cannot wait to see what comes next out of this studio.
