devasion 0.5 is a very simple arcade game where I am flying a spaceship through dangerous areas while trying to destroy coloured rocks and collect gadgets. The whole thing is built around short bursts of action rather than a big story or complicated progression. I actually like how quickly it gets to the point because there is not much to learn before I can start playing. It has that old school feeling where I am mainly focused on moving, shooting and trying not to mess up. The main problem for me is that the gameplay is extremely basic. I am moving around, destroying the rocks and collecting upgrades, but there is not enough variety in what I am doing to keep the experience interesting for very long. The coloured rocks also matter because I need to pay attention to the combinations of weapons and colours, so there is at least a little bit of thinking involved instead of just holding down the fire button. Still, once I understand how everything works, I found myself wanting more things to do. I do like the idea of upgrading the ship. Getting gadgets and finding the right weapon combinations gives me something to work towards during a run, and the timing based parts of the gamepla…
