Gothic 1 Remake

Very good remake, mostly faithful to the original, albeit the devs added a couple of new areas and quests as well as adjusting some aspects in the late game[spoiler](old camp never gets inaccessible, water mages don't kill on sight after destroying the ore pile if you make the right choices with Saturas).[/spoiler] Most of these changes felt natural to the game and made the story more believable. The devs did a good job at keeping the original's vibe while adding their own touch to the story. Graphically stunning, although hardware hungry. Especially enjoyed[spoiler]the visuals of the Sleeper Temple and the Golem Quest[/spoiler]. I constantly noticed myself stopping to admire the scenery. Combat quickly teaches you to stay calm. However, at times I felt like the mechanics were unreliably. Especially in the[spoiler]shadow beast[/spoiler] fights, I felt like neither dodge nor parry were consistent each try, so some of the fights felt like I needed to keep trying until I got lucky enough. [h3]Surprisingly, the game is both familiar and feels like a different one.[/h3] I can't pinpoint exactly what makes every game Piranha made become Gothic, but when I played those it was very obvious. Here a lot of things were carefully remade, but some were reworked and it doesn't feel like it is just a reskin of Gothic again. I want to stress that it isn't a problem, and I enjoyed the game and liked that it has it's own vibe. There are a few issues with the game, of course: [list] [*] there are bugs, both in how NPCs act and interact with the story, and in how items or mechanics are sometimes broken; the Devs seem to be actively partching those but the advice to save often is really useful [*] Magic is both overpowered and underpowered, if you decide to be a pure mage you may have hard time in the end game with casts that require you to stand still and take quite some time to do not enough damage [*] some of in game hints and directions make little sense, but I think it was just a couple of times and you can check a guide after spending too long searching for some NPC that refuses to be where it should [*] combat controls are unusual, I think even beyond what G…

A return to the days of my childhood. A truly great gaming experience that captures what made *Gothic* so good and elevates it to a whole new level. I can highly recommend it.
