Devil Engine

Now, this is an objectively good game. I was hesitant to recommend it though since apparently the publisher was scamming the developer and then the developer got sued by the artists for not paying them. I have no idea who is actually getting paid when I buy this game. Maybe nobody is getting paid, maybe the money is just getting put in a box somewhere. I have no idea. Kinda wish I had money

Definitely some Thunder Force worship going on, which is a great thing. Not exactly with the same game mechanics of storing multiple weapons, but in sound and style it's very much TF. Ball busting difficulty, but extremely fun. The blazing soundtrack keeps you coming back for more, which includes tracks from the same composer of Thunder Force V, Hyakutaro Tsukumo.

Absolutely terrific. One of the first shmups I played and it's one of my all time favorite. - The presentation and music are top notch, and it's boss designs are something you'll never see in any other game, which is the game's biggest strength. - Every stage also have their own gimmick, and some of them are great while others can be quite infuriating (i ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hate the spotlights in stage 5 omg, at least in ignition it's more bearable because you can destroy them on the second half of the stage). - There are only three ships (one is DLC exclusive), but all of them play drastically different from one another and completely change how you approach the game. While I can appreciate that aspect, I personally don't like it that much because if you wanna play another ship, you'll need to learn it's mechanics and completely change how you route the game. (i'll admit it's a skill issue on my part) - This game is hard. VERY HARD. Devil Engine doesn't pull any punches, and if you want to beat it, you'll have to gitgud. insanely slept on game. 120 reviews? criminal the game takes me right back to being a kid and playing Bio-Hazard Battle (rented from a video store that also rented games) on Sega Genesis on an old CRT in my room, dying over and over and just itching to see the later stages

The art direction and controls and everything is excellent, however, it requires a very high skill level from the beginning, that you need to be mentally prepared for getting your balls crushed. This is Japanese levels of hard on the easiest setting.
