"Die. Respawn. Repeat." is a laughably bad (and objectively failed) bit of insincerely made Game Jam junk that was dumped on Steam for profit... never okay. It's a minimalist, real ugly looking bullet hell game with a gimmick that dying gives you a power up. The irony is that uninstalling this game powers up your entire life. So this looks like an old 1990's Adobe Flash game that you might play in a web browser, and the problem there is obviously Steam wasn't intended to try compete with Chrome and Firefox. If it can be done in a web browser, it's not even close to a cutting edge PC gaming experience. That's a problem. This is not a sincerely made product, it was made for a game jam, which is a problem. It was done in a constrained period of time; professional game development takes years of effort from teams of talented and qualified people. A "game" slapped together in a weekend by an amateur simply isn't going to have any value for gamers, and that plays out clearly with this shovelware. Die. Respawn. Repeat. is a really simple little bullet hell game, but I liked the idea behind it almost immediately. I control a small circle while the entire screen seems determined to destroy me, and every time I die I actually leave something behind that helps with the next attempt. That gives the usual death and restart loop a nice twist because failure is not completely wasted. The main gameplay is all about surviving waves of bullets while moving around a very minimalist arena. The controls are easy to understand, but the challenge comes from reading the patterns and finding safe routes through the chaos. I enjoyed how quickly the action can become overwhelming, because surviving for longer starts to feel like a real achievement rather than something the game simply expects me to do. The permanent upgrades are easily my favorite mechanic. When I die, the battlefield changes as new glowing shields and barriers remain behind. These can block incoming bullets and change how I move through the arena during later attempts. I liked this because I am not just becoming stronger in the usual way. I am gradually shaping the battlefield itself, which makes every run feel slightly diff…
