✦ AI summary

Players consistently praise Dragon Quest Builders for its engaging campaign structure that guides a Minecraft-like building experience through a well-paced story with unique challenges in each chapter, combined with charming Toriyama-style presentation and a free-build mode for creative freedom. While most reviewers find it enjoyable and recommend it as a solid entry point to building games, some note that the story depth is limited and suggest playing the sequel first, with Chapter 3 seemingly standing out as slightly weaker than the rest of the campaign.

10/10 one of the best games ever made.

Incredibly frustrating. The blueprint system is INFURIATING and requires you to place pixel-perfect blocks with no margin for error. The battle system is basic, lame and clunky, there's no mini map or quest markers, and there is an insane amount of backtracking for no reason. Also, your villagers basically do nothing. Disappointed.

minecraft but A LOT better

Eh, it's fun to play. It's very heavily story driven, but relatively easy to 100% and just enjoy, however, I feel the sequel is better in just about every single comprehensible way. The second DQB is actually one of my favorite games ever!!

I enjoyed DQB, though there were lots of little things I wish it would have done differently. Each chapter followed the same formula a bit too much, and even though each one progressed a bit higher up the tech tree than the one before it, the structure pace and overall goals was always the same. The differences between the chapters were more thematic and character based than anything else. The game was made more enjoyable by how good the quality of life is. I also enjoyed the idea that rooms in your base offered the player bonuses, but it would have been nice if that was build into the main progression of the game a bit more (more goal-driven). It also never stops being annoying when monsters wreck your base... Also, a bit too much exploration and running back and forth was required for finding secrets and achievements.

Love this game, I think i like this better than the 2nd one, even if you can do more with the 2nd one. I played a ton of it when it came out on Playstation and now I get to do it all over again. All the QoL stuff they included in this edition is also wonderful. More bricks, the mount from DQB2, all good stuff.
