About Dreamspring
Open World Souls-Like
Dreamspring is a dark fantasy styled, open world, souls-like, dungeon crawler game. As a spellsword gunslinger, you'll explore ethereal landscapes shrouded in twilight, battle fearsome creatures, and uncover ancient secrets. Explore the dying Kingdom of Mortis and its different realms in first person action combat, in a world mixed with retro and vaporwave aesthetics. With inspiration from Morrowind and King's Field, Dreamspring aims to be an open world dungeon crawler similar to those games, but it still offers a unique take on the genre. The setting takes place in a distant doomed future, plagued by a mysterious legend, the Dreamsprings. Combat is a less punishing type of Souls-like game. Questing aims to be similar to the early Scrolls games.
The Story
The Kingdom of Mortis, a realm in ruins, looms beneath a twilight sky. The once strong empire has become barren and desolate and the few remaining people are haunted by nightmares and despair. Only the Holy City floating above is the last remnant of civilization, ruled by a religious army. Tormented by dreams of an unwanted visitor, one solitary figure dares to venture into the heart of the dying world in an attempt to uncover its secrets and restore balance to the realm, a desperate attempt to save the waking world from certain doom. For More...

i've only scratched the surface but i'm hooked. the aesthetic is peak, the music so ethereal and dreamlike, LOVE the level design. very very good 👍 Edit: after finishing the early access content I can write a little bit more detail. There is a lot of jank, a good amount of what feels like placeholder assets, and definitely some polish needed (the hitboxes are atrocious), however I still stand by what I said after the first 30 minutes. Despite being rough around the edges I find it incredibly compelling. The game has a lot of soul, some really incredible level design, and the creators really nailed the "weird alien dreamworld" visual aesthetic. I agree with one of the other reviews comparing it to Dread Delusion, but I'd also like to offer EYE: Divine Cybermancy as a point of comparison. Really incredible, and I'll be revisiting after early access.3 found this helpful
Has potential, world is too spaced out. Needs a world map desperately. wait for a sale and do not buy if you like clear directions as to where to go next.1 found this helpful
Runs very poorly. I have an older system but I can run a lot of newer games well. Wait for later build
Moody, fun, very ambitious. In need of some refinement but I'm sure that'll come with time.
As a huge fan of some of the more recent Kings Field-likes, (first person dungeon crawling action RPGs) I was immediately drawn to this game. Yes, the coloring, filters, and movement are similar to Lunacid (leveling up certain stats affects movement speed or jumping height, on top of your regular attack/magic/etc), and I get the sense that in late game, traversing the area will be a great time, but the level design actively works against it in the early game. The area maps are all HUGE and feel empty. I think that the maps could probably be 25-40% smaller and it would be a more coherent experience and probably have a better sense of pacing. To see what I mean, compare the Howling Keep (the first "dungeon") to the Mausoleum near the shore. At a certain point, the huge amount of traversal required almost makes this a walking simulator, but there's not much in terms of landmarks. it's really easy to miss things and you have to really search for items that have been placed in the world. I think it's really immersive that a lot of the magic items and weapons you find in the world kind of blend in to the environment as clutter. Like I found a sword at the bottom of a chasm and I wasn't …
If you like Kingsfield like games you will love this game. 3 times in 20 minutes i said outloud that the developer didnt need to go this hard on the dungeons but im so glad they did. There are secrets all over the place to find and many different tools to find them. spells that create platforms mean you can 9 times out of ten climb to insane heights, will there be treasure there maybe but theres is only one way to find out. The combat has highs and lows. Some enemies are very easy to kill at range and very painful as melee and balance is a little all over the place but i dont care because im a knight wizard who is bunny hopping around high fantasy tears in reality firing a uzi and a rocket launcher using a spell that gives me free ammo. If that sentence doesnt get you to try this game nothing will. Its just good old fashion fun and the dev doesnt care if people miss the secrets you actually have to search for them.
