Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon

Game is a very solid open world RPG entry into the world. Lots to do. Choices to make. Small and large. Came back recently and unfortunately this game still runs like a hunk of junk. My specs are no joke here. If the devs read these reviews, please fix. I cannot stand trying to run this game.

Play it you won't be disappointed. WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR BUY IT ALREADY!

Pros: Hidden gem. Story-telling is great. Quests aren't generic "fetch this, kill that". They're often morally ambivalent. Great environments, especially the surreal dream-scapes. Tons of content. Cons: graphics are somewhat dated. There's maybe a bit too much dialogue in the game; when you enter a town, you'll spend hours just listening to everyone's stories. Also, there's no challenge; assuming you save up money to upgrade your armor, you'll become virtually invincible, and by carefully upgrading your damage output you can 2-shot anything in the game.

Still the best version of Skyrim, including Skyrim. ... kidding aside, if you have enjoyed any sort of classic open-world-ish 3d combat action RPG, this is probably the best one. Plenty of exploration, relatively interesting enemies, mechanics, and goofy NPC shenanigans to give you the feel of being the chosen one hero saving the world. I wouldn't say that the twist of it being dark fantasy (as in, every choice has at least some downside and many decisions aren't really morally judged at all, and the reason that you're the chosen one is heavily "impending doom " flavored) is the most original idea to keep a fairly standard fantasy RPG fresh, but it's well enough written that even the things that miss (grabbing the names of figures from Arthurian legend for things in ways that don't really fit or go much of anywhere, making evil = bondage gear for female NPCs specifically, etc) don't miss hard enough that the fun of testing your build against any given encounter or area can't make up for it. Tainted Grail feels like a great game from 2014 that you somehow missed. Inspired by Skyrim and Dark Souls, with cutting edge graphics (for 2014) and an absolutely awesome setting and story. If you think that description sounds like a compliment instead of an insult, you'll dig Tainted Grail. To me it's awesome. Yes there's some jank, but not too much, and well worth experiencing this big ambitious weird Elder Scrolls x Dark Souls collab. Check it out! I did everything I wanted to do before even starting the game's third map (around 40 hours in doing almost all the side quests); I rushed the main quest for that map and reached King Arthur's Crown dungeon, but the enemies there are damage sponges that deal absurd damage. I ran out of resources and just wanted to finish the game—I was done with it. That said, it’s a damn good game and totally worth it; I had a blast. NOTE: I reinstalled the game the next day, went back to the save from before entering the dungeon, switched to a completely broken build that turned me into a non-stop attacking machine, breezed through the end of the game, and finished it. My opinion stands: it’s an excellent game.
