Dude, Where Is My Beer?

Plus the whole "middle-aged-protagonist finds himself in an incomprehensible world while searching for booze" aspect speaks to me on a deep level ;) [h1][b][u]Pros:[/u][/b][/h1] -Funny dialogue -Detailed sprite animations -The game just has kind of a cozy feel to it. Very "Hygge", even if it's about a middle aged guy in search of ♥♥♥♥♥♥ beer. [h1][b][u]Meh...:[/u][/b][/h1] -No Voice Acting. Not a big deal, but I think it could have opened some comedic opportunities for this title. -Only four save slots. Short game so no biggie, but still... -Occasional bug would pop up where character disappears and dialogue box appears in the upper right hand corner. -Two of the puzzles require you to make THE MOST ESOTERIC MOON LOGIC ITEM EVER IN A POINT AND CLICK GAME. Not a fan of game changing level elements without reason nor letting you know, just for quest progression. However I love the game design and dialog. Very charming.

A quaint short graphic adventure game that likes to poke fun at itself and the genre. Unfortunately, the puzzles are exceedingly incoherent, even for typical adventure gaming moon logic. Any enjoyment there might have been to be had was undermined by constantly fighting the game. Ultimately, the narrative is unsatisfying and the puzzles feel so disjointed that solving them doesn't feel rewarding. The visual design is fun, and was part of what drew me to it. A shame that's the only enjoyable part.

I love point and clicks, and saw this game a while ago and was on the fence about whether or not I should play it. The art style looked cool but the concept seemed pretty shallow, like the kind of game that think's it's really funny but is actually painfully unfunny. Anyways, when I saw Dude, Where Is My Beer? I decided to add it to my wishlist and it just sat there. Eventually it was on a heavy sale, and I was looking for new point and clicks, so I gave it a try. Unfortunately, my initial judgement was spot on, Dude, Where Is My Beer? is sadly one of the worst point and clicks, if not the worst I've ever played. I can tolerate the bad, painfully repetitive humor to some extent, but the actual game itself is so undercooked it's not even half-baked, it hasn't even been mixed together to form a cohesive dough. The puzzles are problematic for 2 reasons: 1. Probably the biggest issue with this game, the game gives you almost no indication as to what you're even supposed to be doing. Right off the back, the character says he wants a Pilsner, so I put 2 + 2 together, and went to the bar right near the start, ok. You go to the counter and ask for a beer, but guess what? no Pilsne…

"It doesn't sound smart."

Just couldn't get into the gameplay even though I really wanted to. I'm in the industry, and can attest that the writing and approach is top notch---but I just wasn't having an easy time progressing things forward from the start. Couldn't find the fun; but to be fair, I haven't really played a point + click since the 90s (yeah I'm old). Love how this game managers to be continually insulting both the purists and the hipsters. If you enjoy point and click or you are a craft beer enthusiast, this game is worth checking out for its price, but a tip for you to avoid my experience: make sure you lower the difficulty to the medium or lowest setting. The game defaults to hard mode, which removes all in-game hints. I just couldn't progress without hints and didn't realize how hamstrung I was til I looked up a guide.
