What Steam players say
Recent verbatim reviews from Steam — separate from playze.io community reviews below.
Players universally criticize Enigma Code: Prologue as an incomplete product that feels more like a demo than a finished game, with complaints centering on its extreme brevity (10-15 minutes), grating audio design, and lack of any actual ending or resolution to its story. While a few players appreciate the retro visual style and find the opening premise intriguing enough to want more, most agree it's not worth paying for in its current form, with harsh critiques of the AI voice acting and the deceptive marketing of features like an "unusual visual style" and "mysterious story" that either don'
Enigma Code: Prologue… well, it's the prologue for something that doesn't exist yet. --- I'm going to quote the store page and then respond to each bullet point; this is what's advertised:
Game features:
Unusual visual style
Mysterious story
Short duration (10-15 minutes)

Unusual visual style Is it though? You can watch for yourself in the video on the store page, it's not that unusual just old. (which would be fine, I don't care that it looks like it's from 1999, but it's not unusual)
Mysterious story Did you watch the video on the store page? Because that's it, that's the entire mystery. You've watched the entire mystery ~ there is no ending within "this" game, that would be the next one (that doesn't exist) after this "prologue"
Short duration (10-15 minutes) ~ They claim 10-15 minutes, personally it took me 6 and that includes solving the "puzzle" that gets you the achievement. I suppose if you read really, really slow and have a difficult time clicking on 1 of 6 boxes it might take you substantially longer than 6 minutes.
More to the point let me make it clear this game doesn't innovate or have any deep game…7 found this helpful
This is not worth a dollar. It's basically a demo for a possibly much longer game. The audio sounds are grating. The voice is AI. This could be fleshed out into a game, but it's not worth money at this point. I would not recommend paying for it. It feels like less than a demo.3 found this helpful
Hippity-hoppity your reality is now my property!
You guys simply look like haters at this point. As it was stated, this “game” is just a prologue to something bigger. There's actually some lore behind it, and you may look for it in the animation series that is coming out right now (check for the first episode here) https://youtu.be/PRQeJv9xUJA?si=A0rmwwasDRkumv6j Just give it try, it feels like it was influenced by ENA-style vibe, which also was originally inspired by Pablo Picasso's painting. There must be some fans of it! This world is already a cruel place, so don't be “that guy”. This project is being made by a single person who is just starting their way into the game dev and media in general. I know them personally, so I can tell you that they have some picture in mind of what they want to do. Show some support and interest, if you mind, and we may witness a birth of something more than a something-15-minute-point-and-click-game. The reason behind the cost of the game is very simple. Creator's resources are limited, therefore they just wanted to cover up the cost of publishing the game on the platform. It's not some greed or megalomania. Why, I understand tha…
Non-branching visual novel followed by the laziest Windows 95 interactive facsimile ever. The game screenshots above literally show ever single bit of "gameplay" that this offers. I'm not sure how I got this game, probably as part of bundle, but the remote possibility that I paid 99 cents for this garbage makes me feel slightly ill. I love retro gaming and retro styled gaming and yet could find zero redeeming content here.
I'd be disappointed if I paid for this as it stands. It's *very* short, but I was actually hooked by the end of the 14 minutes. I liked the old-school graphics. It kind of thrusts you into the hot seat of a story that's already in motion. That threw me off at first, but I felt like it just started getting good when the prologue ends! It's a bittersweet feeling. This review is somewhat given in good faith: I genuinely think this could be a cool project if it's as intriguing as the last 30 seconds were. Don't buy the prologue at $0.99 though. It's too short. One QoL thing that I'd like to see is the dialogue immediately progressing when you choose what to say: As it is, you click a dialogue option and then have to click again to hear the next line. I'm not sure if that's intended, but I found it strange.
