Very cool, nice looking game, but it's buggy. Kept freezing, and it crashes very easily. And there are no checkpoints, so back to the beginning you go. For a perma-death game, one of the most important things is to have your game be optimized well enough that it doesn't crash so that it's actually fair to the player. This game does not have that, and by the looks of how often this problem has happened to others in the reviews I've read, I can tell it wasn't just random bad luck for me, so I'm not gonna be playing it again. I'm glad it's free or I would be furious. If you want to make a perma-death game you CANNOT have crashes be a frequent problem to players.1 found this helpful

This game gave me heartburn...
So I played the entirety of Exit The Abyss and here are my thoughts on it. First. This I will acknowledge is made by a solo dev but the whole feel of the game came across as something that you would use for a project towards a gaming degree to showcase that you can make one but there are issues to this game. Throughout the game I feel that the atmosphere either shifts too quickly or not much at all. The storyline of the game does not in anyway explain what is going on. You get a bit of something at the beginning for about 2-3 minutes but then its like after that its nothing but yourself and listening to sound of yourself walking through water The entirety of the gameplay experience is walking and challenges that are pretty straightforward with intense visuals throughout, though it does have a habit of doing these on repeat that does nothing to add to the style of the game and neither does any of these give anything towards the storyline. Puzzles are again on the simplistic side if you don't overthink on the matter. I feel that this game has been wrongly classed as a horror game because it uses a total of 3 jumpscares that are of the cringe variety to force you into being scare…
This game was better than Layers Of Fear 2023 and it's free. The puzzles were good but not too difficult, and I really liked the atmosphere. If you are into liminal games, give this one a try. Rating: 8/10
