Firefly Shelter is an extremely low budget indie horror game where you explore an old school, solve puzzles, and find keys. Basically you search a room, solve a puzzle, and then obtain a key to move on to the next room. This is a casual game, and cheap, for only $1.00. It isn't trying to be anything special. The whole game take approximately 30 minutes to complete. + The puzzles can be somewhat fun to solve. + The atmosphere is creepy / eerie. +/- There is a story, but it's not that original or interesting. - There is no horror, no jump scares, no ghosts, no gore. - The soothing / uplifting music does not fit the setting and atmosphere. - The voiceovers are all spoken by AI, and are horribly bad. - No achievements. Strictly just for those that might enjoy a Z grade, cheap, jank, atmospheric game for a half hour. Overall: 4.5/1015 found this helpful
For now the game needs a bit more polishing. Sadly I have not finished it due to numerous amounts of softlocking. I felt it was a bit gamebreaking in order for me to continue. The music in the background (despite the physilogical horror genre) does not fit into the game at all. The music is too happy for what the story is. Your explanation about the story of this game says: Step into an eerie silence. There's only uplifting music.
Softlock example: if you enter a room and (startle) for example, move back out of the room the door locks infront of you. Forcing you to restart the game. The second softlock I've came across was the Gym. You had to take pictures of the faces on the walls. You only got 5 papers to take pictures with. First off I did not knew the task to open the door which made me use all of the paper. I had to restart the game as well.
Nonetheless despite my bad review, the game looks good. But it just needs a bit more repairs and polishing.7 found this helpful
Extremely generic horror game, essentially one standard school map asset, you need to find a key in every classroom and solve a stupid puzzle to get out of the rooms. Ending is also very abrupt, There is NO value in playing this and I love simple horror games...1 found this helpful
I found this a very frustrating experience. The game did not make it clear (at least as far as I can see) that items in the inventory have to be manually used. I spent about 5 minutes after picking up the first key walking from door to door trying them all and not realising I had to go into the inventory and use the key. Even then it only works if you are looking at the right place. As far as I can see you have to be looking at the door handle, just looking at the door wont cut it. Entered the first room only to hear some AI voiced dialogue, not good AI voiced dialogue but one of those AI voices that keeps being used on the ever growing amount of AI slop being generated on YouTube. The inflection was all wrong, just sounded awful. This was the point where I gave up and requested a refund. Even at 44p this game wasn't worth it.1 found this helpful
terrible controls, issues with unlocking doors that's a big part of the game save your time and money
