Fool's Paradise

Please note, it's not my intent to make the developer feel bad about his game, but I was very miserable playing it, so much so that I could not take more than 30 minutes - obviously, it's not much of a review of the game, it just got so bad that I had to quit. To give at least some positive vibes, I was kinda interested in the character, even though the voice acting was not great, I would be interested in the story if the game was formatted differently. Just out of respect for indie devs, I am not going to refund it, take my money, but I think I am entitled to at least have some fun talking about my frustration. I was constantly fighting controls, camera angles, sticky zones, tunnel vision, and puzzle logic; I even hurt my pinky holding the run button the entire time while trying to rotate. The character will often go in the opposite direction, and no my controls are not reversed, I press left and he drifts right, I press right he goes left. On top of it, I am confused all the time, I can't tell if the puzzle is working properly or not, I can't tell if there is a glitch, you zoom in on certain areas and there is no indication of me interacting with it when I hear a sound. This game.... in simple words.. painful. Unfortunately i thought it would be a fun indie game to checkout but after playing it for about an hour and getting nowhere I am calling this a bust. The camera and motion controls are lacking. Interacting with objects is awful. Its makes noises like you have done something but nothing occurs. There is no clear direction and although in most games that take that approach this is a subtle suggestion on flow to the story where as this game has not flow at all. Honestly its like painful. I don't want to crush developers but in this case it needs some TLC. Def not trying again.

Fool's Paradise is a beautiful indie game. I liked everything about it: atmosphere, music, puzzles. I recommend buy this game. 10/10

Fool's Paradise is a really badly made narrative heavy 3D platformer where you jump around various environments which relate apparently to some schoolkids badly written diary... okay. I guess it's supposed to have some kind of arthouse vibe but it just comes across as, well, bad. There's some meaning behind the narrative, but the game itself is so painful to play and badly made that it's not worth digging into it. Developers should definitely try playing video games to understand what they are and what gameplay actually is before they try making their own one. One important note is that even though this is an amateur project, it does seem to be sincerely and genuinely made. I couldn't find any flipped assets, plagiarism or any other kind of insincere actions from the developer, but unfortunately genuine intentions alone are not enough to produce a brilliant PC gaming experience. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard.
