Forgotten Fields

Good idea and the music is great but the gameplay simply does not work as well as the writing. I did not enjoy the first half hour of the game and let's be honest, with such a title you have like the attention of the first 15-30 minutes of the player to convince him that the game is worth the time. Not for me. Controls are confusing. UI is unclear and dialogues, writing is not engaging. Less is more.

This is one of the most contrasted game I've played for a long time. There are abysmal flaws : a lot of technical issues, constant clipping, camera issues, framerate drops and stutter for a very basic game, very janky controls and mini games, and most of all... the "writing" part of the writing (by that I mean, the in-game book the character is writing) is so terrible that I'm suspecting it's intentional for some kind of meta humor. If not, jesus... And yet, there are a lot of qualities. The mood works really well both visually and musically for the 4 hours you will be playing, and most of the dialogues are spot on. Well, maybe because they hit extremely close from home. I mean, I too am a young writer in his early 30s where his parents house is getting sold in a very near future and where everything around him is changing fast. But aside from that, I honestly thought most of the dialogues to be very relatable and touching if you're a young adult. And you can tell it was a personal and important game for the creator, though it doesn't matter if the finished product is terrible on a lot of aspects (but not all) Anyway, I can't tell exactly why, but this still get a positive review…

Creative but needs work. Dont recommend at this point. Im not a huge fan of the art style either.

Forgotten Fields is yet another narrative masterpiece from Frostwood Interactive, far too overlooked. Like its predecessor Rainswept, the game focuses heavily on writing and atmosphere, this time exploring themes of time, memory, and the importance of family and friends. It's a "cosy" experience, yet still deeply thoughtful, and I was captivated from start to finish. The dual narrative structure, alternating between the ordinary life of a struggling writer and the fantasy world of his own book. These two stories intertwine seamlessly and left a strong impression on me. The soundtrack by micAmic, once again sublime. This studio truly has some of the best music in independent gaming. The vibrant, colourful environments, which create a warm and nostalgic atmosphere, even if the character models remain very basic (expressionless faces, stick-figure bodies). Unfortunately, Forgotten Fields suffers from significantly more bugs than Rainswept. The camera angles are often problematic (awkward perspectives, walking through walls, characters glitching into objects and disappearing). Time waits for no man. Artistically it's great and can see the love the dev put into the setting. Writing is good. However there will be ample technical issues and wonky controls as you roll through it. I enjoyed it generally speaking but you will have to work through the jank at times and busted clipping as some areas are a bit rough. Save often as you can accidently break the game if you're skipping through cutscenes and it can randomly soft lock certain parts. Still it's worth a look if you like stories that discuss the passage of time and feelings associated with that kind of stuff.
