About From Orbit

In From Orbit you'll manage the crew of a small spaceship. Stranded deep in uncharted space, they need to make their way home. Journey from planet to planet, each procedurally generated with unique environments, challenges, and alien creatures.

Explore
Scout out the richest resources and the deadliest critters, and discover unique challenges and powerful artifacts.

Extract
You're going to need all the Ore and Crystal you can carry if you're going to mount a successful defense or purchase the upgrades you'll need to make it home alive.

Excape
Err... Escape. The resources on each planet won't last forever, but the alien creatures willing to bite your legs off never seem to end, eventually overwhelming even the most stalwart crew. Hold out as long as you can... but don't throw your resources - or the lives of your crew - away to a lost cause. Always be prepared to make a timely exit when things start getting hairy.

Key Features

  • Permadeath - If your crew does get eaten by aliens, or your ship is destroyed, that's game over.
  • Procedurally generated - Each play through presents you with a uniquely generated region of space full of new planets, each with different benefits and risks.
  • Pick up and play - Sure there are hordes of creatures out to get you, but From Orbit is still accessible to a broad range of players, even if you don't have much experience with RTS games, or find the complexity of mainstream RTS's off-putting. Set your own pace: rush headlong into danger, or set up your defenses and fortify your position.
  • Planetary Environments - Arid deserts, frigid ice worlds, or lush forests... each with unique challenges and obstacles, and each complete with their own set of hostile critters. From Desert Beetles to Ice Worms, every type of creature you encounter has its own strengths and weaknesses that you'll need to adapt to in order to survive.

Equipped with a powerful Omnisuit, any crew member can switch roles at a moment's notice ensuring you've always got the right tools for the job.

Harvester
The reason we're out here on the space frontier in the first place... resources! Expedient resource collection is the foundation of survival, required to construct defenses and purchase upgrades.

Defender
Stand on the front line, keeping your crewmates safe with your force shield and blaster. Clear the path to resources so your Harvesters can go to work.

Engineer
Construct automated harvesters, turrets, and other mechanical devices. Repair your constructions... or your ship. Nobody's going home if your way off the planet is destroyed.

Medic
Always treat your medic with respect, and they'll patch you back up after you fight a yeti, or if you've spent a little too much time running around a planet with a toxic atmosphere.

A charming RTS (with a touch of tower defence) roguelite. Basically the gameplay consists of - land on a planet, explore as quickly as possible to find resources to extract. Periodically a wave of enemies comes to attack your ship. Once you've extracted what you can/want, you head back to the ship to blast off, buy upgrades and select a new planet. Likes: The art syle and UI are nice, very clean. Music is good, but can see it getting a little repetitive. Dislikes: The steam store page gives more of gameplay guide than the game does. Takes a little while to work out what you're supposed to be doing. Would like to see the upgrade tree expanded, to give more variety on each playthrough. Would also like to be able to change the keyboard shortcuts.

This is a tough one. This game seems to be an Early Access game even though it's not. But it's definitely not complete. It just lacks the depth I was expecting. There's only 5 upgrade levels, across like 6 paths. By the 4th-5th planet I had almost half the upgrades already. I could see the difficulty was also going to spike. The planets are basically all the same with a few monster generators that spawn every minute or so. But this isn't a tower defense game. Unlike in Gauntlet, you can't destroy these monster generators, and if you're not careful, they'll spawn when you're right next to them. I really wanted to like this game as I loved Eufloria, Deep Rock Galactic. I was hoping this game would really be a rougue lite rts, but alas it's not even that. There's definitely a gem in there somewhere, but it needs some work. If I had received this on sale, I probably wouldn't have minded as much, but at full price, the content is severely lacking. I originally wanted to refund it, but just didn't have the heart to go through with it.. I did have some enjoyment for 2 hours, and I really hope the developer uses the money I spent on improving this game.

I like the artstyle a lot, but the gameplay was a real letdown for me. The main thing for me was that there don't seem to be many interesting decisions to make. You wander a collect resources and then try to protect you base, but its not like you have many different units or towers. It felt really limited and it got boring for me really quickly.

Steam store page really says it all, and you don't need any in game guide, the game being as simple as it gets. Basically you manage a few crew members while they collect resources before leaving the planet, in order to improve your equipment to land on more challenging planets. No fortress building here, resources are scarce. A nice time waster, more for a smartphone than a PC, got on itch.io for 5€ because I like the art style and the slow pace.

Nice little game. Graphics look lovely and it's easy to get started. The main issue with this game is that it feels incomplete. There just isn't much to do other than gathering a couple of resources. There are 3 biomes: desert, ice and jungle. The only difference between the three are the graphics. Gameplay and resources to be gathered are identical between all three. Only two types of resources are to be gathered and all you can do with them is building turrets, gatherers and upgrades. This gets old very fast. The game looks like a nice prototype which could have been the starting point of a great game. Unless substantial updates come to the game, skip this one.
