About Helheim

The Helheim was invaded by a mysterious enemy in command of an army corrupted by a powerful technology. Its queen, Hella, was defeated and imprisoned, while her reign was being ravaged. Then an unexpected help arrived and now she is ready to take her throne back.

Fast paced gameplay. Easy to learn, hard to master

Kill an entire army with Hack’n’Slash mechanics, where every mistake could be fatal. You will have to face an army made up of various types of enemies that will test your skills and hinder your ascent. Dodge myriads of bullets and deflect them wielding your sword. The corrupted enemies of the helheim will try to stop you with powerful armaments and the only thing you have to stop them is your blade.

Collect and use powerful runes to unleash the true powers of a goddess of death

The Helheim hides ancient runes that contains the lost powers of Hella. Find them, equip them and create powerful combos to annihilate your enemies.

A corrupted norse kingdom of death

You will explore the Helheim as never seen before, where ancient structures are crumbling, giving way to a new and mysterious technology. Those who once were the inhabitants of the helheim are now a lethal army, whose only end is to kill you.

This game is the equivalent of repeatedly wrapping your foreskin over your nutts with the logic that it would be a fun and exciting exercise. I am sure there are people out there who could do that over and over but surely you need to spice it up a little. This game has 2 attack animations, both of which were stolen from the Karate Kid III movie. Not once in my life did I think I would see a machine-gun/shotgun/rocketlauncher wielding monsters in Norse Hell, its a fresh take for sure but one you would get and implement in this manner after snorting gravel off the side of the road.

Despite looking and sounding great, Hellheim is rather repetitive and very frustrating to play. You're moving from one arena battle to another during the whole game, with a limited amout of different enemies spawning out of thin air. Beating them is too often based on button mashing and luck instead of skill, and the one-hit-kill shotguns are very annoying. Being able to deflect bullets by attacking them is a nice feature tho, and unlocking new runes is supposed to keep the gameplay fresh. Sadly, I only found the rune that delays time useful. The battles are so fast and hectic that I couldn't find any use for the other runes. Luckily, the game can be beaten little over two hours. This said, it is obvious that the developers of Hellheim have plenty of great ideas and I hope they keep working on new games.

OK I am not sure what others are talking about. I just played this game to add to my completion list for the year of trying to beat 200 games. If You set your mind to fast paste bash and beat game you are good to go. I just went with the music and played through it in an hour and some change. Bash, reflect, and use powers is the basic gists of the game. I'd get this from a bundle or if it is on sale. Like the time of this post it is about $2.50 so for that definitely worth it.

Visuals are good, but gameplay is impressively forgettable. Time from boot up to uninstall: 12 minutes. May be a personal best.

Pros * Indie vibe to it with hand curated levels * Camera angles change automatically to give some visual depth * Automatic save points and reload without interrupting play too much * Cheap $3 arcade game Cons * Even on easy its just bullet hell with more life refills, feels like a coin muncher arcade * Can't remap keys * Rather linear and repetitive, just bash keys as fast as possible to pass * Got bored after 15 min, the over saturated visuals didn't help * How does this take 9Gb of space?! Uninstalled First few times i couldn't start a new game. I changed to Window Mode x720 resolution, started a game, then changed back to fullscreen x1440 with no problem
