About Home Defender

Welcome to Home Defender: A Holiday-inspired Adventure, a nostalgic journey back to the 90s with references to classic movies and games.
In this unique game, you'll take on the role of a home defender.

When your family go out, they forgot one very important thing... You!

Now you can play as nine-year-old boy. Your goal is to protect your home from two burglars who are trying to get you. You need to explore the house and find items that you can use to make traps and find weapons. You can also encounter side quests and enemies in different areas of the house, such as the basement, the attic and the backyard. Armed with imagination and a BB-Gun, you can create a wealth of clever contraptions.

You have 9 minutes before burglars enter your house. Try to beat your basement and attic nightmares first to find weapons and secret keys to unlock more traps.
When you defeat the bandits, you will be able to call the police to take them away.

To win you must know that:

Your every mistake costs your life
(then you lose everything you have collected in the inventory and you have to start the game again)

Save bullets, stones and water for later (the traps may be destroyed and then weapons and ammunition may be the only way to survive)

Patience and perseverance are the key to victory

Are you ready to defend your home from invasion? Get ready for an exciting game where your skills will be put to the test. Be the hero of your own Home Defender story!

Have fun playing and good luck defending your home!

✦ AI summary

Players are deeply divided on this game. Some consider it one of the best games ever made, while others find it disappointing due to significant technical issues like lag, poor game design choices such as unavoidable game-over scenarios from ammo scarcity, and a nine-minute waiting period before the main action begins. The novelty of the Home Alone theme wears thin quickly for most players, and the game is criticized as an asset flip that may infringe on the movie's intellectual property, though a few appreciate it as an adequate budget title when purchased at a steep discount.

Alright. “Home Defender.” First off, don’t buy this game at full price. Just don’t. It’s not worth it, even when it’s a dollar. However, for a game that feels like a Unity asset flip, it’s… okay? I wouldn’t call it good, but it’s not terrible either. If you don’t know, you play as a weird-looking model of Kevin McCallister, who speaks with a text-to-speech voice and can die from a sneeze. Your goal is to defend your house, as the Wet Bandits are coming to invade in about ten minutes. Using traps scattered around the house and your government-issued water gun (which has ridiculously little ammo), you have to survive the night, outlast the bandits, call the police, and sleep peacefully. Simple, right? Just grab some toys, a bowling ball, and hey! Maybe even do a few side quests when you get the chance. Yeah… easier said than done. This game is difficult. Not “Soulslike” difficult, but man, it’s tough. Your items barely do anything, and since you have to take down two guys with what little you have, you’re in for a wild ride. And when I say “difficult,” I don’t mean the bandits one-shot you or have hitboxes the size of mountains (though, close). The game is just borderline impossi…

This game was really disappointing. I bought this game thinking it was going to be a fun, playable, working game that I could easily complete and get a few laughs out of because of it being bad but not so bad that I disliked it. I was, however, gravely disappointed. The game, for one, lags A LOT when moving around the house, even on a decent computer. Second, the game is a complete ripoff of Home Alone (Which I'm surprised hasn't warranted the game to be taken down for copyright and a lawsuit issued as this game is profiting off someone else's intellectual property). Third, if you don't hit every shot on a boss, then you will run out of ammo before you can kill it, meaning you have to purposefully die and restart the ENTIRE GAME. You also need to find the weapons around the house, which isn't easy to do. Luckily I bought this game on sale, so I only paid about £1 for it, but I feel bad for all the people that payed £4.99 for this garbage. Unfortunately though, I wasn't lucky enough to get a refund for the game because I applied for one over 2 weeks after I bought the game, but then again I didn't get to play the game until 2 months after I bought it so I guess I threw the money…

Even though this game is a huge homage to the Home Alone movies, which are one of my favorite series of movies to watch around Christmas (AT LEAST THE FIRST TWO), the novelty of this game being a Home Alone game wears off fast. Oh, sorry, did I say fast? I mean it wears off NINE MINUTES IN. Yup, despite being the main threats of the game, the burglars do not show up for a good nine minutes after you start playing. While it gives you plenty of time to prepare for their arrival, you won't want to play that long when you first try the gameplay. G A M E P L A Y: You walk around Temu Kevin's house, picking up whatever crap you may come across to use as traps. Although these include what you see in the movie, such as paint cans and ornaments, you will also see a whole new set of armaments, including bowling balls, tasers in puddles of water, and boiling hot pots of soup, which continue to be boiling hot, even after being taken off of the stove. But instead of using these to set up a home defense system born from Rube Goldberg's wet dream, you just place these objects on the ground, and pray to god the AI is stupid enough to step on them. Yup, you don't get to drop red hot irons on Doll…
