Inkshade

I finished the game and I wish I hadn't bothered. It's a tedious and repetitive knockoff of Inscryption, without any attention to any of the elements that made that game so special. There's a lot of grinding in this game and towards the end, you must redo large sections of it when you die. The difficulty level is also uneven throughout. The game starts out very easy but the difficulty level ramps up very quickly. Then, you have to grind a lot to level up your characters because you're way ovewhelmed numerically, to the point where no amount of environmental-based tactics can save you. You essentially must have the right characters equipped and have certain upgrades that render you all but immune to attacks. You go from grinding a lot to keep up with a steep difficulty curve, to all of a sudden having a really OP character that cheeses every area and boss without any effort on your part or threat from enemies. All of this would be bad enough, but maybe somewhat redeemable if you at least were trying to finish the game for the story or because you enjoyed your interaction with the gamemaster, as with Leshy in Inscryption. Just get the game

It's like Inscryption but a tactics game instead of a card game. I loved the atmosphere, and our demon "GM" was a perfect blend of creepy and funny. Just be prepared for how dark it is.

Absolutely fantastic; great art design, great structure, great pacing. The tactical side of things - the majority of the gameplay - excels at the slow introduction of new concepts and ideas: it starts off simplistic, maybe even a bit overly so, but it reveals more and more facets to its gameplay as it goes. Each run is paced just right; each run gives you enough resources for overall meta-progression that you feel like you've made significant progress even when you lose (always a make-or-break portion of any roguelike, in my opinion). The framing story, meanwhile, will be a structure familiar to anyone who's played Inscryption - you're playing a game with a shadowy, possibly-supernatural figure and basically have to scour your surroundings for game pieces to give you an edge in 'the game' (the tactics portion of the title). I don't know that the comparison to Inscryption (which Inkshade's not at all shy about inviting) does the game any favors, honestly... but I don't know many games that I'd say compare positively to Inscryption (which I consider an absolute masterpiece), so I follow the logic that if 'you're gonna outright steal (ahem...
