About Iron Diamond

Iron Diamond is a 2D action adventure game across a rich interconnected world that blends sci-fi and medieval fantasy! Immerse yourself in a world that combines versatile combat, challenging platforming, and engaging puzzles. Navigate through great plains, icy peaks, tortuous castles, a treacherous volcano, and forgotten caverns to find your way to the Iron Diamond.

A QUEST IN KINDARA

As a futuristic weaponized Iron Extractor, you find yourself lost in the mystical land of Kindara. Tasked with seeking a valuable iron deposit, the IRON DIAMOND, you will encounter friend and foe along the journey while a deeper threat grows beneath the shadows.

CHALLENGE YOURSELF

You will be fighting a variety of enemies and challenging bosses with your array of close melee attacks (jabs, uppercuts, and downward strikes), as well as an arsenal of stackable projectile weapons (fire, ice, lightning, multishot, homing shot, missiles, and more).

Exploration won't be easy, as various platforming challenges bar the way forward. In order to navigate the treacherous paths, you will need to utilize the abilities given to you by runes that you find in the depths of the island.

Uncover enchanted runes to upgrade your suit with new combat and movement abilities that help you maneuver the island. With each new ability, new pathways open, and new battle strategies evolve! Some runes give passive abilities while others give abilities that you must expend energy points to use.

Increase your maximum health, energy, and attack damage via specialized iron-rich tank pickups! Stumble upon a myriad of other valuable items that each have their own unique part in the story. Some can be traded with NPCs, while others can be used in shops to upgrade your runes further. Many items are critical to the advancement of your quest!

A LABYRINTH TO UNCOVER

Utilize the ever-growing map menu to your advantage! Rely on the robust set of treasure and item markers to guide you and keep you informed, and use custom markers when you want those extra details.

Unlock elevators, boats, and mine carts to fast travel your way around previously encountered areas, making backtracking and exploration seamless without being tedious.

A LIVING WORLD

Experience a rich lore through artifacts and interactions with dozens of NPCs and shops across several evolving villages which bring the world of Kindara to life! Engage in a land of ever-changing weather conditions and a robust day-night cycle.

I came away from Iron Diamond with mixed feelings. To be upfront, I didn’t like the art style, I didn’t enjoy most of the music, and I found the writing uninteresting. These things weighed against my personal enjoyment, but despite all that, I could still feel the passion behind the game, and that passion was enough to carry me through to the end. What makes the game work is its movement. It’s definitely on the floaty side, but that looseness has a charm to it, and it’s the reason why exploring the world feels worthwhile. Combat, by comparison, is fine—functional but nothing that stands out. The game is very easy overall, and I managed to finish it in under five hours without a single death. That ease makes it a poor fit for veterans of the genre, but I think it has real value for younger players or those just getting into Metroidvanias for the first time. This is a budget title, and it does feel like one, but I don’t think that means it feels cheap. It’s a compact experience made with care, and while I personally have no desire to replay it, I still enjoyed traversing the world the developer put together. I hope they continue to make more games, because Iron Diamond feels like a…

Floaty jumps, controls can get stuck after healing, a clashing visual style, got stuck in the rune smith menu (only happened once but once is enough to leave an impression), horrificly bad looking npcs, had to redo to last boss fight twice since game got stuck at the end of the escape sequence and other things i don't like.

Overall I enjoyed the game very much. I did not like the grappling mechanic and never got the hang of it.

10h metroidvania for a cheap price. Game really deserves the metroidvania title. It's a good game. Minus points for some crazy achievements instead of content based. The map could be a bit more easy to understand and each area should have a completion % so you know where to look for any missing items.

Mixed but positive. Fun for a couple bucks and a couple hours. Good variety of environments but the art itself has a very amateurish quality that feels cheap (which it is!). Similarly the music is immediately forgettable. Most of the character designs felt somewhat crude and lacking emotion. Comparing to the recent Minishoot Adventures, I think it's possible to get some mileage out of a simplified artistic style but Iron Diamond struggled to do so. The story is slight but fine. It's nothing complicated albeit the world of Kindara doesn't have a quality of realness. More of a playground feeling. There's a lot jammed into the game, which is a pro and a con. The map felt cluttered with markers and it was hard to keep track of where I still needed to go look for something. There are loads of items to collect, but perhaps too many - they started to not feel valuable when you collect 20, 30 or more damage buffs. I did enjoy using unique items to get special upgrades, that was a fun touch. Similarly the tremendous number of traversal abilities provided variety (double jump/break, down pogo/down break, wall climb, hang, super jump, fire/ice/lightning shot, etc), but I felt there we…
