Joyspring is one of literally thousands of retro 2D platformers infesting Steam and lowering the average quality of all video games everywhere... and I'm not kidding. Searching for "platformers" on the Steam store page yields over 17,000 results! Is this one of the best of those? Absolutely not. This short and pointless precision platformer lacks, well, everything... you jump around a mildly esoteric (and mostly badly done) set of bland levels, doublejumping, wall jumping, getting mildly annoyed at the poor controls, all so you can get a greater understanding of why the Godot 2D engine has never resulted in a successful game (don't get me wrong, Godot 3D is pretty good, but the 2D engine blows). Platforming is an old, mostly dead genre, and this lacklustre experience, while it doesn't have an upfront cost, isn't saving the genre... it's no surprise this failed to capture any attention from gamers in the era of immersive 3D gaming. This features really godawful pixelcrap "art" instead of real graphics. It's hard to say if this was because the developer didn't have the skill to do the job of creating 3D visuals, or couldn't afford to hire someone who does, but it also doesn't…2 found this helpful
it's quite impossible to even play the game. I'm pretty sure other negative reviews mention why the controls don't work, so I won't bother repeating old info.
very awesome
yeahhh I've got better things to do with my Saturday than play this
The games mechanic idea is quite cool and the visuals are really, really good, but there are some small things that make me think that the game hasn't been play tested very much, if at all. 1. I think that if you are inside a wall and try to switch, instead of killing you, it should just not let you do that i think i have lost the most amount of deaths to accidentally switching. That also solves the problem of when you press switch after dying you wont get the death blackout multiple times. 2. The float mechanic is kind of difficult to manage. You have three different abilities to do very different things and often its just too much to handle. I think at least one of them should be like semi-automatic. For example maybe the float mechanic could like a bubble you can collect that runs out after a certain time period? 3. Moving platforms should start when the player starts moving. Creates a little bit of freedom to sip tea or something in between trys. 4. Pressing right/left a tiny bit before jumping off a wall doesn't let you actually jump. I am not a game dev, but I think fixing that should be similar to coyote time. I think the game has tremendous amount of potenti…
