About Kevin Toms Football Star Manager

Love retro, lightweight football sims? Want something nostalgic yet portable? Prefer fun and speed over depth and detail? If you’re after a fast, nostalgic, football management fix with bite-sized tension and strategy — then this is the football management sim for you!
  • Classic simplicity with subtle depth: Manage your club across four divisions, with promotion, relegation, domestic cups, and European cup competitions. There's a transfer market, tactics to set, player fitness-wise decisions, and club finances to balance — all designed to be quick to learn but hard to put down.
  • Match highlights: Stylised, text and graphic match highlights reminiscent of the original 8-bit title. It’s charming, easy to follow, and still engaging.
  • Customisation & roster controls: Rename teams, edit kits, or retitle players. Player ratings consist of skill, fitness, and age. Aged out players retire or decline, while younger talent can improve season by season.
  • Strategic decisions: Purchase loans to fund signings, manage morale boosts (twice per season to lift spirit), bid on players with risk/reward valuation, and navigate transfer valuations that fluctuate with division status.
Remade and re-released for 2025, the godfather of football management games is back with Kevin Toms Football Star Manager. This faithful recreation of Kevin Toms' groundbreaking Football Manager (1982) breathes new life into the retro classic with modernised improvements to recapture the footy magic of the 80s.

I thoroughly enjoyed playing the original football manager game by Kevin Toms on my ZX Spectrum in the 1980s. This version is fairly similar overall, with slightly better graphics and some gameplay improvements. Unlike most modern football manager games, it's not too complicated, and you can select your squad and play matches quickly. The excitement watching your matches and hopefully score a few goals is still there!

A very pleasant trip down memory lane! Even the names of the old players brings a smile. A nice, simple way to while away a few hours...

i took over Torquay and renamed. then i won promotion to division 3...yes 3. no prem and no champ. this is old school rinsed-down-to-bare-essentials gaming at it's finest. Defenders that make top scorer. goal keepers who watch and never make saves. strikers who face open goals and STILL manage to miss the target with an almost impossible shot at that angle. offside? what's that? yes this has it all and not even a full season to wade through as you play everyone once per season. love it current best HIGHLIGHT : midfield lays a ball past all defenders and my guy is first to the ball just inside the box. no defender in sight and keeper is watching the birds. open goal cannot miss right? shooter BACK passes ball to the only bit of pitch with no other attacker, just plenty of defenders and they hoof it away. from INSIDE THE BOX. i could almost hear the crowd singing The Jam's 'That's Entertainment' :D

Played the original on the C64 back in the day and loved it. Fast forward too many years and still loved the game. Until the latest release (June 2026). The text on my monitor is so big and blocky it is now almost unreadable. The game is now borderline unplayable. In addition, I use an ultra wide screen monitor and the game window is humongously large, with no option to resize. Looks like the end of the road for this game. So sad.
