About Kingdom of Night

One night, in 1987, in the small town of Miami, Arizona, a satanic cult unwittingly summons the ancient evil, Baphomet, catapulting the town into chaos. John, awoken by the kidnapping of his neighbor, sets out into the night to fight back against the demonic invasion and rescue his friends before it's too late...Take control of John as his adventure leads him through an hour-by-hour experience of what could be everyone's last night on Earth. As John, you will encounter unearthly evils, Demon lords, afflicted townsfolk, high school bullies, and a torrent of engaging, serial-like side stories – all nested in a larger-than-life fantasy that brings the ultimate evil to a neighborhood near you.
Choose your class, customize your abilities, and battle nightmarish creatures as you collect unique gear in order to infiltrate the massive lairs of Demon lords that have taken over the town.

Save Miami

Take down the town’s demons as you get closer to unraveling Baphomet’s grip on Miami. Explore the entire map of the town, interact with a wide cast of NPCs and take on the Demon Generals in the order that you wish.

Choose Your Class

Choose from 5 different classes: Barbarian, Knight, Rogue, Necromancer and Sorcerer. Each class excels differently, providing a unique play style depending on your choice. The class you choose decides your base style, while the skill trees allow for further customization.

Shape Your Character

Skill trees are split into three branches, containing 10 different talents each. As you level up, spend allotted points into any of the three branches of your class. Once you have reached level 10 in your first branch, you are free to cross over into another branch, allowing you to fully customize your play style.

Hoard the Best Gear

Outfit yourself with new equipment via quest rewards, hidden items throughout the town, and scoring random drops from a multi-tiered loot system with variable drop rates. Items range from common to completely unique. The items you collect provide an extra dimension to character stat development and have special abilities that will make you even more powerful.

Co-op With Your Friends

You don’t have to face the forces of darkness by yourself. In Kingdom of Night, either play through the campaign as John alone, or with a friend in local co-op. Team up and synergize different character classes, becoming a torrent of annihilation that the underworld will fear.

I think Kingdom of Night is mischaracterized as an ARPG in the Diablo vein. Sure, it can be kind of loot heavy, and there’s somewhat if a skill tree (with comparatively little customization option tbf once you have your class locked in), but the action is very rudimentary and the gear you pick up as well. The pixel art-style, basic combat, some (yes, basic) adventure elements as well as the isometric POV actually seeks more inspired by a different sort of vintage: I could not shake off the feeling that I was playing a lost third game developed by Dreamforge Intertainment, who made two very similar style games in the early-mid 90s for SSI: Veil of Darkness and The Summoning. Not that is a bad thing for the most part. I have enjoyed my time with KOTN thus far. The 80s era aesthetic it is going for is right on point. Anyone nostalgic for that specific era would find lots to like here. The synth-heavy music is also on brand. It also has a very 80s horror/sci fi story to navigate through, which really would not be out of place in a VhS you’d rent from your local Blockbuster for the weekend based just on the catchy cover art alone. The action can and does get QUITE repetitive though, a…

This game is a glorious 80's action RPG that kept me hooked the entire time. The Quests, Enemies and overall world building is phenomenal. If you like movies like the Monster Squad, or Goonies this game will be like a dream come true. Wonderful game! Great job Devs!

Impeccable vibes. Surprisingly lovable and engaging characters. I enjoyed this thoroughly and I really think it deserves more attention. Can't wait for whatever the devs do next.

Love the late 80s horror nostalgia. Only complaint is that you can't skip ahead through the dialogue in hard fights where you inevitably die a few times while trying to figure out the boss attack patterns, but other than that pretty solid hack-and-slash ARPG :D. Really enjoyed it enough to play it twice instead of just loading to get all the achievements :))

Amazing game

Hello! I wanted to give my review so far! So firstly, amazing atmosphere and tone. It does get a little complex at the beginning, and there are a few too many monsters, but overall the experience is very duckling and rewarding. The classes are mostly straightforward, and the skill progression eases you into it. Not to mention, the local co-op is fantastic. However, I will say the Knight class is a little confusing, especially the Paladin subclass. The Class’ main skill uses the Guts stat as a modifier but a lot of skills in this tree uses Int as their modifier, and then one skill in the Paladin subclass uses Muscle as a modifier. I’m a bit confused on what my stat spread should look like, since it appears that I have 3 stats to invest in, rather than 1 or even 2.
