Hunt the Night

Not perfect, but enjoyable enough. Great visuals, great art, good sound design, enough enemy variety, ambition in the boss fights (though several of them suffer from heavy design issues), decent lore, good combat, semi-decent build options (you have several spells and runes and weapons at your disposal, but you can only equip one of each. this severely limits any "build" you'd like to play. the lack of map could be an issue for some players. the world is not huge, its actually rather small, but leave that game alone for a few weeks, come back to it, and good luck to remember where you've been and where you must go.

I really wanted to be able to recommend this game. The pixel art is great, the environments are gorgeous (if a bit too busy at times), and the story is good enough. I was interested in uncovering the story and lore of the world, even if the dialogue was a bit rough at times. Most of my complaints about the game were minor and not unexpected with a dev team's early/first work. Until about 2/3s of the way into the game when I reached Aurel, Gift of the Weavers. That boss fight was extremely badly designed. Halfway through the fight, Aurel clones themself. Whatever, not normally a problem. Except you can only hurt the original and the clone can hurt you. Okay, then I just need to spot the differences so I can tell which one is which. Except the clone only is a mirror image in the cutscene where it spawns. Once the fight starts IT’S THE SAME SPRITE. Don’t love that but fine, just got to keep a close eye on the original. Except all but one of its attacks (the one it barely uses) involves teleporting around the screen and the two Aurel’s can overlap, so good luck telling where the original has gone. I've 100% the game in around 13 hours, I enjoyed exploring the world of "Hunt the Night" and putting together all the lore. The combat is quite fun as the game allows for a good blend of up-close & ranged fighting smoothly. loading screens are a tad bit long though and can be a little frustrating but aside from that I had no other issues.

It feels unfinished, unpolished, kinda oouzing gameplay and the most frustrating thing is a damn cursor of the mouse when you playing with gamepad

First and foremost, the aesthetics and vibes of this game are immaculate. Love the themes and general visual designs. However outside of this, it well deserves the mid 70% positive rating it gets. There's a decent amount of interesting things in the game but it doesn't really have any other standout features. The combat mechanics quickly become very repetitive and monotonous. There are 5 weapon types but the only real difference between them is "how fast do you want to attack". Furthermore, the attack patterns are all on a 3 hit combo. Between that and only being able to attack in the cardinal directions (NSEW), it's pretty dull. Only 3 ranged weapon options and the first one you get wins 90% of the time. Feels like they really dropped the ball on giving the weapons unique characteristics and movesets. Map traversal is alright but there's a lot of back tracking and **THERE IS NO IN GAME MAP**. It's not the worst thing but one area of the game in particular is an incredible slog to explore due to the lack of a map.
