About Legacy of Aeroja

Legacy of Aeroja is a game made in RPG Maker MV that uses the ABS Plugin by Phoenix_Ru.86/PhoenixKageDesu.

It is made up of five major story acts and a postgame. It is rich with side content and dungeons that contain puzzles and bosses. It has many classic RPG mechanics such as hidden bosses, unique equipment and skills, rewarding exploration of side content, and is equally as rich with story, lore, and worldbuilding.

It is the first game in the LoA franchise, a fantasy world filled with backstory that combines positive aspects of both realistic fantasy and high fantasy to generate a world filled with political intrigue, culture, the impact of fantasy elements in realistic societies, and many small details that give the world life. This world is a vehicle for meaningful stories following themes not often discussed in fantasy such as toxicity or modern existential problems, and will utilize ludonarrative(writing told through game mechanics) elements to enhance every part of the experience. Most importantly, this world is something you can be a part of, so join us for our first foray into it!

RPG Maker strikes again! Legacy of Aeroja is one of hundreds of low effort retro-pixel RPG Maker asset/construction kit flips spamming the Steam catalog, made with the RPG Maker video game construction kit... in their own words, "Our easy to use tools are simple enough for a child." Like all RPG Maker "games", this is essentially a bunch of low quality/canned assets from RPG Maker coupled with a cringeworthy high school anime club fan fiction. There's little to no original content in this RPG Maker asset flip, and the plot itself is right out of a junior high school remedial writing class. Raise a dragon, deal with godawfully bad encounters, reach a new understanding of why RPG Maker is so universally reviled amongst gamers... enabling those who should never publish games to publish games anyway, making gaming worse for everyone. As with all RPG Maker games, the poor quality engine displays badly in fullscreen and doesn't have full HD support or any graphics tweaking options, making this unacceptable for any dedicated modern PC gamer. The point can be made that the intention of RPG Maker is to make demos and small games to pass around friends, and shouldn't be used for "profe…

It's rare for an RPGMaker game to mercilessly kick the ♥♥♥♥ out of me, but that's what Legacy of Aeroja did. I won't give it a thumbs down just because it has a learning curve and a high difficulty level. It's clear that the devs don't want you to mindlessly steamroll the game by pressing OK over and over, and that's fine. Making you press a button to change areas is an odd and cumbersome design choice but I imagine there's a reason for it. And what I originally thought was a bug, being able to use the healing ability, was actually intentional as the ability doesn't work if you don't have any berries to eat in your inventory. It even says so if you mouse over it with a tooltip. It has a unique battle system, too, which feels janky at first but you can get the hang of it. So I'll give Legacy of Aeroja a thumbs up.
