Great for those who wants to play a tabletop rpg in the style of a jrpg. Takes a little while to get going but stick with it and you'll find a robust system with plenty of adventure and treasures ahead! ===Post Stream Review=== CRITICALS ⚡Fleshed out battle mechanics and out of battle interactions. ⚡Equipment visuals over battlers that makes collecting gear all the more enjoyable. STRIKES (Pacing was a little off but not enough to warrant any strikes)2 found this helpful
An amazing opening sequence, fun battle/job system, interesting story, beautiful customization, and solid characters! (Plus some nice eye candy as well haha) You can definitely feel the love that has gone in to making this game, and I highly recommend it.2 found this helpful
Early Review, Will update later. The intro of this game is just rough to say the least, You sit through about 10 minutes of cut-scenes just to finally play and its just an info dump tutorial explaining absolute basic mechanics like taunt and healing potions, things that anyone who has ever touched this genre will already be hyper familiar with, it also does not help that you have absolutely 0 control over your characters movements during this outside of battle. UI: I get wanting to stray from the norm but the action wheel just feels clunky, want to use an action that is displayed to the right of your current selected action? You need to press left to cycle to it, just feels clunky for no reason, There is a reason that games stick to the standard action select screen, its clean and functional. Outside of that status effect symbols are just slapped on-top of your character portrait which can make them hard to see them, downscale the portraits and give debuffs their own space above them, you do not need 1/3rd of the screen to be portraits. TL:DR; Openings should be short and sweet with a good narrative hook, try to give players control of their characters relatively quick even if …1 found this helpful
NOTE: I own this game on another platform and have put a lot more hours into it than the Steam playtime stat would indicate. Now to the review! A very well constructed adventure with a classic, familiar feel that feels like it could be a (popular TTRPG system) campaign. PROS: ATB combat system that rewards player skill without being unnecessarily complex Pacing that respects the player's time Very epic/cinematic feeling cut scenes and story Great character customization with skill learning and multi-classing Fun equipment system, gear upgrade slots, and quality levels gives it a bit of "loot-based dungeon crawler" feel Solid characters with a lot of personality and good party banter Secrets abound! Side quests are fun and not filler, nor are they strictly mandatory Challenging but never unfair or imbalanced (has a Difficulty slider too, IIRC) A lot of hot jams (especially the battle tunes!) CONS: A few maps experience mild frame drops (doesn't bother me but I know this will irk someone somewhere) The occasional spelling or punctuation error On-map encounters don't provide any sort of ambush/surprise mechanic so just rushing the enemy or letting them rush you yields about the sa…1 found this helpful
A hidden gem of a game for sure. It feels like a remastered version of the old pixelated Final Fantasy games with the top down view and turn-based combat. There is also a class system that functions similarly to the jobs in those same early Final Fantasy games. The art direction is very good and the soundtrack is awesome. Very easy to learn the game mechanics as the game does a good job of teaching them to you as you come across them. Highly recommend this game for anyone looking for something not too challenging but not quite a cozy game either. Well worth the money.
I enjoyed it, patiently waiting for part 2.
